One of the greatest determinants of health or disease in a person is their attitude about themselves, others and life. When I say attitude I mean their subconscious beliefs. These are programmed between 0-7 yrs of age and may not be very accurate, yet become the baseline for evaluating ourselves, others and life without questioning their accuracy or validity.

A person can exude a persona or mask of wealth, bravado, accomplishment, intellect or a number of false displays. Yet it is what their body displays that can be the true parameter of whats really going on inside, running the show and grounding the ship on the rocks of self sabotage.

Science tells us how various feelings can trigger muscle tension, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, sweating, increased/decreased digestion and variations in all metabolic processes, i.e. blood sugar, hormones & immunity. And that these physiologic changes are stored in memory along with the actual event that produced the feeling. If the experience is not learned from and viewed from a higher perspective it can be triggered over and over again (through the senses) facilitating a quicker response by the body and leading to some system getting exhausted. We then call that a symptom or a disease. In B.E.S.T. we call this SEMO: Subconscious Emotional Memory Override.

More over, we know that our bodies generate and are surrounded by energy fields. Research has shown how thoughts interact with energy fields, which validates the Law of Attraction. Intense or prolonged positive or negative emotions create and attract similar vibrations; persons, places, circumstances or events. So we can see, regardless of what life “brings us” it’s how we respond that sets the stage for our life experience.

In her book, “Happy For No Reason”, Marci Shimoff shares stories of various individuals from what she calls “the happy 100″.

In our practice one of the primary points of focus in care is to create a paradigm shift. If we can not communicate and lead people to the perspective that we are spiritual beings undergoing a physical condition, instead of we are physical beings with brief glimpses of spiritual experiences, there will be very little true healing and transformation.

A common misconception of our race, society, family lineage and personal perspective is that happiness as a source, is external to me. Therefore I must always be out of myself, pursuing in desire or dreading in fear the essential happiness that all humans long for. This outside/in thinking is the essence of suffering.

What Marci Shimoff is getting at is that within us is the eternal source of happiness. So instead of looking out there for my quick fix of happiness or a need to fight/flight from threat, perhaps we can begin to look at our habits for what is going on in my life i.e. body, relationships or finances. As I look deep for what I am grateful for, I begin to recontectualize my life and I see it from a different, deeper perspective.

I begin to be happy, joyful, content, enthusiastic for no reason at all, because I am living from beingness which is one of abundance, that seeks to gift its own inner joy, unconditionally to others!

So in the words of Thomas Jefferson, “Let us pursue (which means to practice in habits) happiness in all we think, say and do” and it shall be so, from the inside out!

We are the most obese nation on the planet. How can this be? We have more doctors, nutritionist, hospitals, gyms, health-clubs, and finances than all other nations put together!

This symptom, which is epidemic and is currently trying to be legislated away, which will never work. Did this work with prohibition? Did it work in the war on drugs? The war against cancer? Heart Disease?

This symptom is a result of our unwillingness to live in a healthy manner, both in our individual choices and as a consumer nation. This includes antibiotics, hormones and environmental pollutants in our food , water and air!

The average cost to the insurance companies, disease care system (Allopathic Medicine), employers, etc is $5,000 per year for males and $2,500 per year for females for obesity. This from the report ” A Heavy Burden: the individual costs of being overweight and obese in the United States” which considered lost wages, disease care costs (allopathic), short term disability, productivity loss, absences etc…

The principle added cost of obesity is your health and symptomatology. Many people then seek relief through a magic pill, procedure or “guru”. The only true cause of our suffering is in our HABITS and BELIEFS. So to get healthy we must be willing to change at the core level. Core level willingness is a self-honoring FIRE that will sustain you even when your body or memory resists. See our previous blogs for some helpful hints. If you are truly committed give us a call to start your journey in Health, Happiness & Success.

Recent research at the Heart Math Institute has revealed a gap in our current understanding about how our bodies and minds work. With studies of the heart and brain being monitored at the same time, it was noticed that the heart registers response to stimulus before the brain. In fact it now appears that the heart literally tells the brain what to do/perceive.

This is in alignment with every known world philosophy. Our heart matters. A happy heart (spirit=heart) means a happy, healthy mind and body. Yet a misguided, hardened heart (spirit) can create havoc in the mind and body.

In a recent study published earlier this year by the American Heart Journal; 785 men and women age 46-92, who had a baseline of freedom from cardiovascular disease were studied. They were studied in videotaped interviews on how they responded to life and it’s challenges. 3 types of anger were studied:

Constructive Anger: The emotion moved them to discussion and problem resolution.

Destructive Anger Justification: Blaming others for ones anger over a life conflict.

Destructive Anger Rumination: Stuffing one’s anger over a life conflict.

After a 10 year follow-up the men and women who displayed destructive anger justification for dealing with conflict in life were more than 30 % likely to develop cardiovascular disease.

So what is a constructive way to deal with anger? Understand that anger as an emotion is a response to “frustrated desire”. When I become personally responsible for my life, I asses the situation, determine what I am capable of and responsible for and I BRING IT.

I also release what I am not in charge of and be at peace with this. I do all this from the context that the fulfillment of all desire is an internal and eternal state. And I re-contextualize life’s many scenario’s, bringing my best, releasing the illusion of control fear and desire, knowing the ultimate all is LOVE and KINDNESS. If it is to be , it is up to me! So BRING IT!!!

People often come in my office and report “Doc I’m stressed out!” Listening with compassion I often respond, there’s no such thing as “stressed out”, in reality it is truly “what are you resisting in your life.” Whats the lesson of the moment that I am just not getting?

For if I don’t get the lesson (which is always a higher way of seeing myself & others and implementing the lesson with gratitude) the lesson repeats in my life with more frequency and or intensity. The difficulty is that the lesson doesn’t always appear the same way every time. One time it’s a broken water heater, next it’s a business deal gone awry, next it’s an ache or pain, next it’s a relationship not going as expected, and the story goes on and on. Life keeps giving us an opportunity to learn the lesson until we get it and move on with gratitude. If we don’t learn the lesson we get more of what we don’t want and less of what we do want!

Here’s a short list to increase your awareness of what’s in your sub-conscious brain/memory:

1. Bouts of repeated thoughts & emotions that seem to come out of nowhere or are just not appropriate in intensity for life now i.e. criticism, scorn, anger, obsessions, cravings, fears, anxieties, regrets, hopelessness, self-blame… etc.

2. Repetitive ailments: Any musculo-skeletal complaint, immune related (colds & viruses), inflammatory disorders and female menstrual/hormonal disorders are all a subtle wake-up call. Are you answering the door? Or shutting it closed with denial, judgment, drugs, addictions?

3. Insomnia, Indigestion,Fatigue,Poor memory/Concentration: If this sound like you or any one you know, here’s what you can do today to feel better tomorrow. Make a list of any person, place, event, circumstance, situation (yourself included) of anytime you felt let down, disappointed, life/others/self didn’t go as expected, betrayed, violated etc.. Take the one that is the most emotionally charged and journal on the 5 step healing process of forgiveness-learning the lesson – gratitude, as described by Dr. MT Morter in his book “Soul Purpose”.

I am intentionally leaving this process out of the blog, to inspire you to call our office and order this great book, to begin to “stress less” today! (480)899-3683

We know in B.E.S.T. that the subconscious brain has the power to run our physical body, shape our perception and literally interface with the Peri-neural Nervous System (connective tissue, fascia, lymph, bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons-Dr. James Oshman’s work). From the PNNS we discharge photons of light/thoughts into the universe which sets up an attractor field (Dr. David Hawkins “Power v. Force”, et all) that creates what we bring into our life.

Here’s some current research. British psychologists Richard Wiseman, author of “The Luck Factor”, has found that people who view themselves “lucky” when they think about the past, view the past in terms of success. Viewing events in the past as a success gives the brain something similar to look for going forward.

When we intentionally see the good in the moment and get the lesson, we re-pattern our brains (neuroplasticity & neurogenesis) to continue to see all of life’s opportunities before us as a blessing and something positive to be learned from.

It’s similar to dance. Both my parents were dance instructors. Their students would practice technique and routine all year. However, before the dance recital they would rehearse their routines to music, at the hall where they were to perform.

By this process of intentionality we attract, perceive and act upon what we put our attention on.

Wiseman says that in one survey 80% of the self described lucky people used intuition (trusting their gut/heart) in their careers. Perhaps with intentional training, going with our guts and learning the lesson we bring about the “luck” that we already believe we are!

What I observe daily within my own mind and that of my clients is how easily we are distracted from being present, now. And how quick we are in “sticking our noses” into other peoples business, yet not paying attention to what is directly facing me in my life. I know firsthand, of a person who developed a form of skin cancer on their nose as a result of being “nosey” and being thin-skinned when things didn’t turn out as desired.

It seems we can have a negative bias; the predisposition to see the negative in ourselves, others and life. Thus by the law of like attracting like, I see and attract more of what I don’t want and don’t like in life.

In the book “Awakening Joy” by James Baraz, he explains that our “brains can be like Velcro” for negative experiences. If you read various philosophers and authors (spiritual, psychological, philosophical) there seems to be a tendency for us to go negative as human beings. What I believe this means is we all have ego’s that are extremely narcissistic; and the easiest way for my ego to grow is through fixating on the drama of the old story of “not enough”. Life is never enough, God’s not enough…etc. just observe your mind and you’ll be aware of this familiar jingle.

Here’s some helpful hints on how to re-train your brain (neuroplasticity: new brain pathways by you changing your choices)!

1. Keep a forgiveness/lesson journal: begin with forgiveness and end with gratitude, then implement the lesson concretely in your life.

2. Get rest.

3. Get exercise. Regularly/routinely : breathe (from deep in the abdomen, not shoulders, and in through the nose and out through the mouth) and be thankful/grateful for freely moving physically and mentally through all of life’s moments.

4. Make a list of 3 passions in your life i.e relationships, finances, health. Once you know what your passion looks and feels like only take inspired action that will create that passion in your life. Release and bless all other thoughts, people and activities that don’t fit your passion as meaningless distractions.

Dale Carnegie wrote ” I find that 50% of my worries vanish once I arrive at a clear, definite decision; and another 40% usually vanish once I start to carry out that decision.”

There is a part of our being that is very narcissistic. This primordial self-centeredness is passed on from generation to generation and invariably shows up when life, people, places, things or events go differently than I expect. It’s at this point I could choose to accept the experience, situation, event, person, sensation, body awareness – AS IT IS -without judging it according to old/outdated “shoulds”. Resisting WHAT IS creates negative emotional states and imbalances the Autonomic Nervous System.

William James, the father of Applied Psychology, stated “Be willing to have it so!” What he had learned in practice and personally is that the beginning of healing starts with willing acceptance of the what is. If not, I’ve got one foot on the gas (flight) and one foot on the brake (fight) and I go nowhere, all the while burning my car out!

Sound familiar? This is how we get ill. You can put any name you want on it and discover lots of diagnostic findings physically, yet it is all resistance to learning the lesson.

Here’s a short list of positive to-do’s that you could willingly choose to embrace and move on into healing.

1. Acknowledge every negative thought, emotion, word, action or unpleasant sensation as a welcomed message of change.

2. Breathe in deeply into the abdomen, lower your shoulders and recall a life experience where you were deeply grateful. Continue to breathe deeply, focusing on pictures and emotions of gratitude until you feel different in some way (mentally, physically, emotionally).

3. There are only 3 decisions now that you are more present to the present moment of growth and decision.

A. In this present moment- What am I in charge of? Do it and be at peace, without expectation of outcome.

B. In this present moment- What am I not in charge of? and never was. Let it go; whether it is a shoulda

coulda, wish, person place, circumstance or event, “Let it go”, and be at peace, having healthy borders &

boundaries.

C. Leverage: Send people or circumstances that come to mind, pictures and emotions of peace, love

and gratitude, whether I see eye to eye or not, for I truly reap what I sow.

To put it in a nutshell, we all have inherited genetic strengths and weaknesses. However all to often in the office I hear from clients “it’s in my genes”, my mother, father, sister, aunt had x,y,and z so the default through inadequate knowledge and faulty logic is that they are just powerless victims of their inherited genes.

False! As cellular biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton explains ” It is now recognized that the environment (our choices) and more specifically our perception (interpretation of reality=subjectivity) of the environment directly controls the activity of our genes! Environment controls the gene activity (and protein synthesis; the foundation of life) through a process know as epigenetic control.”

So to simplify; you and I are not a slave to our DNA, it’s our choices, more specifically how I perceive reality, that dictates how my body performs! If reality is perceived as a threat my body will respond accordingly, just as if reality is perceived as a joy/dance with life my body will also respond accordingly.
