Dr. MT Morter Jr., past president of two Chiropractic Colleges and founder/developer of B.E.S.T. (Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique), for over 30 years has spoken on the importance of alkalizing our body and buffering the ill effects of toxic acids.

Research at the University of San Francisco Department of Medicine by Dr.’s Lynda Frassetto and Anthony Sebastian published in the Journal of Genealogy demonstrated that as we get older our bodies ACCUMULATE ACID WASTES. As these acid wastes accumulate our bodies begin to become over-whelmed in the buffering/detoxification process. Researchers found that “as blood acidity increased there was a corresponding decrease of the alkaline reserve.” The alkaline reserve is the excess vitamins & minerals stored up in our bodies.

What we have found in Morter Health System and B.E.S.T. is when our health choices stray habitually from the original intelligent design, we develop low level toxic acidosis, which must be buffered at the expense of alkaline reserve (vitamins, enzymes, minerals). Researchers coincidentally noted that as we accumulate acid and reduce alkaline reserve, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and other degenerative diseases occur.

What’s the answer to this dilemma? From a dietary point of view; to decrease acidifying foods (meat, dairy, junk food, refined grain & sugar, etc.) and increase vegetables and fruits! The National Cancer Institute states that increasing fruit/veggies to 8 to 10 servings a day (think Alka Green, Green20 & Trace Minerals) will cut the risk of some cancers by 50%.

The writing is on the wall, which will you choose? Acidifying foods and chronic degenerative disease, or alkalizing foods, exercise and health and vitality?

Call us today to check your pH and begin to take charge!

We’re all familiar with multiple studies that demonstrate how fish or fish oil, as a regular part of our diet, can reduce the chance of dying from heart disease by one third. Other research studies have linked fish consumption to lowered levels of strokes, depression, Alzheimer’s and many other chronic conditions.

Most recently a December 2009 study reported that consumption of long chain omega 3 fatty acids found primarily in fish and seafood may help prevent colon & rectal cancer.

There are lists of acceptable, endangered and possibly polluted fish. Here is a short list:

OK

Arctic Char Mackerel Sardines

Barramundi Mullett Squid

Pacific Halibut Muscles Trout

Herring Oysters Blue Whiting

Jelly Fish Pollock Haddock

Octopus Sabel Fish Rock Fish

Snapper Stripped Bass

Endangered List

Bluefin Tuna Grouper Tile Fish

Chilean Sea Bass Atlantic Halibut Atlantic Sole

Atlantic Cod Monk Fish Dog Fish

Orange Roughy Flounder Shark

Skate

Sometimes, Depends ( may contain contaminants or involve damage to environment by fishing/farming)

Abalone- if farmed, not poached

Anchovy- best bet from canary in Bay of Biscay

Catfish- best if channel catfish, can be farmed (and hormones added)

Clams- may contian contaminants, check locally

Crabs- again bottom feeder and can be overfished

Lobster- bottom feeder, (toxic contaminants)

Mahi Mahi- Opah, a species of Mahi Mahi can have mercury contaminant

Salmon- When farmed is fed estrogen derivatives to fatten. Organic and wild caught are more favorable to industrial raised

Shrimp- if farmed can have high antibiotic levels

Swordfish- can have very high levels of mercury

Tilapia- raised in Asia, which can be treated with antibiotics, pesticides, carbon monoxide and methyl testosterone

Tuna- canned Albacore can have high levels of mercury, Light tuna is a safer choice

This is just a short list. What we need to understand is that ANY drug does 3 basic things:

A) speed up a body function

B) slow down a body function

C) shut down/stop a body function

The logical question is what am I currently choosing in my essential habits, and what have I been chronically choosing which is giving me negative feedback (symptoms). Address the habit and choice and the bodies response to the choice will diminish when it is no longer a necessity. If not, drugs and the vitamin/nutrient depletion will continue the downward spiral of symptoms, dis-ease, disease and death. While all the while never truly learning the lesson of self-empowerment and stewardship of choice.

Water is a key element of being healthy. It’s one of our 6 Essential Choices. Here’s a short list of why you need more water.

Acid – Alkaline Balance

As we get more dehydrated the body becomes more acidic- slowing enzyme reactions and disrupting normal biochemistry. This gets compounded when the excretory organs like the liver, kidneys and lymphatic tissue do not have enough liquid to properly do their jobs. As acid goes up inflammatory conditions follow. Fungal overgrowth can also occur.

Aging

As we age, cell volume can go down. This can greatly be accelerated by poor hydration. Maintaining proper intra and extra cellular fluid balance can also get thrown off.

Joints & Spine

Dehydration of the cartilage and joints leads to brittleness, inflammation and predisposition to damage. As dehydration increases, toxins that are external & internal in nature can effect joint health and deposit and create gout/arthritis…etc.

Kidneys & Bladder

As we are exposed to many environmental toxins and internally produced toxins, changes in hydration lead to pH changes (acidity) which can lead to viral, bacterial, fungal overgrowth and irritation of the mucous membrane of the kidney. Excess protein leads to acidosis and as a compository buffering adaptation, ammonia is excreted causing burning in the urine. Hydration greatly aids the eliminatory systems.

Cell Wall

When we are chronically dehydrated the body puts extra cholesterol in the cell wall to prevent water loss, this overproduction, though helpful to the cell wall, introduces too much cholesterol into the blood stream.

Skin

Dehydration leads to dry, flaky, non-elastic skin. As we become more and more dehydrated our sweat becomes more concentrated and toxic which can lead to inflammation and skin irritation.

Weight Management

The weight and thirst centers in the brain are closely linked. Feelings of thirst can be confused with hunger because eating can relieve thirst and thirst induced fatigue is often misinterpreted as a lack of fuel (I want sugar!). Both can cause overeating and weight gain. Chronic dehydration also leads to excess fat as a means of sequestering poisons that can not be safely eliminated.

Lungs

The moist mucous membranes of the lungs are protective in nature. In chronic dehydration dryness leads to vulnerability of attack from pathogens, dust, pollen, etc..

Digestion

Drinking too much water at once can dilute digestive fluids, leading to indigestion. Dehydration leads to diminished digestive capacity and fluids. The average adult produces 7 liters per day of digestive fluid. Mucous produced in the stomach protects the stomach lining from hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes. Dehydration can diminish protective mucous leading to stomach ulcers.

Enzymes & Exercise

Water is essential for enzymatic activity, energy production and metabolism. Dehydration can slow this process resulting in the sensation of fatigue.

Liver & Blood Pressure

Chronic dehydration leads to a more viscous (thicker) blood and a concentration of blood vessels. To compensate for “sludge in the blood” the body must increase blood pressure to push the blood through the veins.

Colon Health

The bowels extract fluid from the stools. Chronic Dehydration leads to a lack of fluids in the stools and hardened stools leads to constipation and body wide toxicity and inflammation.

To keep your body properly hydrated you need to be drinking a minimum of 1/2 gallon of water throughout the day. I personally recommend a product called Green20. This product is a powdered mixture of Chlorophyll, Fulvic Minerals, Chlorophyllins, Resveratrol, Potassium, Stevia and comes in a Lemon or Spearmint flavor. Green20 is a natural detoxifier, its alkaline pH-balanced and rich in chlorophyllins which come from the leaves of plants. You can find this product in our online store at www.desertdove.com or call Liv International and place an order through customer service using distributor # 13088.

I know we’ve all heard it from our parents and dentists growing up, that dental hygiene is very important to out overall health.

A recent study of 11,000 adult men and women, averaged age 50, surveyed brushing habits and determined the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and levels of C-reactive protein/fibrinogen. High levels of which indicate a state of inflammation in the body, precursors of many disease states. In 8 years during the study there were a total of 555 cardiovascular incidents (170 fatal) in individuals who reported never/rarely brushing their teeth once a day. It is found that there is a 30% increased incidence of MI (myocardial infarct-MI) only brushing once a day, and a 70% increase with less than once a day.

How I look at this is that we need to pay attention to our bodies in a proactive manner. Meaning……. Why wait until a heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes or auto-immune syndrome before I start to be a healthy steward of my body.

I find clinically, that most Americans take better care of their pets and cars than their bodies.

A different perspective could be I’m worthy of a healthy, happy body and I act on my wisdom!

According to Thomas Rau, M.D. at The Paralysis Clinic in Lustmuhle, Switzerland, for every tooth there are neurologic connections and Oriental health connections to organs called meridians- energy pathways throughout the body.

I recently had 3 clients with facial pain originating at the level of a tooth. All 3 were referred out to their local dentists. One already had diagnostic workups and was visiting me in between the examination and subsequent treatment. I referred to a tooth/organ/meridian chart for the dysfunctional emotion that relates to the organ which relates to the specific tooth. I then proceeded with a B.E.S.T. procedure to locate the exact time of the interference in memory and cleared that memory/energy pattern.

For example the second incisor (top right) has a interference pattern of inflexibility, aloofness, disorganization and egotistical thinking/emotions,which can create energy imbalances at the right kidney, bladder and urogenital systems. The feeling/emotion and their relative relationship to organs are from the book “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die” by Karl Truman.

All 3 individuals had complete diminution of pain within 24 hours. One to the amazement of her dentist! So what does this have to do with you and your health?

Know that you are intimately connected within. Body, soul, spirit and mind. Just because you feel an imbalance or symptom in one place, does not mean that is the causal area. Most times it is not… Would you have a mechanic fix the dashboard of your car because it lit up?

Only when we address cause and remove the interference pattern does healing and self restoration occur, naturally. Then symptoms remove themselves, as they are no longer needed to wake us up!

There are a various 11,000 + (by today’s count) chemicals, therapeutic and recreational drugs, pollutants etc. in the environment that create numerous problems and degeneration in our bodies. These compounds are known as endocrine disruptors.

If you can taste plastic in a cup or water bottle-find a new one! In certain types of plastic, chemicals can leach into the water.

To make sure you are not creating a hormonal time-bomb check the recycling symbol on your water bottle/plastic drinkware.

#2 (high density polyethylene), #4 (low density polyethylene) and #5 (polypropylene) are ok.

#1, the type sold in most stores are good for one use, do not re-use these. It would be more healthy to use a reusable h20 bottle and fill it with your own filtered water.

#7 recycling symbol may leach Bisphenol A (BPA is a xeno-estrogen- it acts like estrogen in the body) which is a known estrogenic endocrine disruptor.

For more information on endocrine disruption see “Environmental Health Perspectives Journal”, “Current Biology” by Patricia Hunt and “Bisphenol A Exposure Causes Meiotic Anueploidy in Female Mouse”.

There was a case study by Frank, et al, of Western Resource School of Medicine presented at the American Public Health Association’s 138th annual meeting in Denver 2010: It was found that teens who spent more than 3 hours a day on social networking websites were predisposed to the following greater than their peers who were not “hyper networking”.

1. tried cigarettes: 62%

2. tried alcohol: 79%

3. binge drinking: 69%

4. used illicit drugs: 84%

5. been in a physical fight: 94%

6. had sex: 69%

7. 4 + sexual partners:60%

You make the choice as a parent to set healthy borders and boundaries. You are wiser and have valuable life experience to guide your precious ones. It is our duty to share our knowledge to help them develop a healthy, informed mind, so when they are not with us they are empowered to respect and honor themselves and others.

If not their minds will be shaped by others, who might not be as loving.

Addictions/vices or virtues begin early and can manifest over a lifetime. Our thoughts and the behaviors that follow really count.

Dr. John Bradshaw in his book “Healing the Shame that Binds Us” states that healthy boundaries are the hallmark to positive parenting and adulthood.

Who will form your childs mind? Those that care, or those who would manipulate?

Phillip and Alice Shabecoft have written an enlightening book “Poison for Profit”. His was a New York Times reporter for 32 years and has founded Greenwire, an online digest of environmental news.

Some alarming statistics that his research revealed:

-out of 73 million children:

21 million (1 out of 3) suffer from one or another chronic disease

58 thousand threatened by cancer

2.5 million birth defects

310,000 cases of lead poisoning

6 million with Asthma

12 million with a developmental disorder (ADD to learning disabilities)

According to Dr. David Wallinga, Director of the Food and Health Program at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, “We’ve created a society with around 80,000 industrial chemicals, most have not been tested.”

We know that these pollutants show up in the food (meats), water, air and produce etc. Since we’re at the top of the food chain and mammals, it primarily shows up in neurologic and hormonal disruption, interference and mutation.

A great way to protect and detox these pollutants is as follows:

1. Eat organic when/if possible

2. Reverse Osmosis/filtered water

3. Green Supplements: Alka Green and Green20

4. Liver/Bowel Cleanse: Fruits, veggies and nuts for 14 days

5. Remove poisonous chemicals from your home and garden

6. Some time of activity that makes you sweat which will help in the detox process

7. Detox footbath’s

8. Some type of therapy while your detoxing to help make this process easier

Dr. H. Gilbert Welch MD, MPH in the New England Journal of Medicine in his article “Screening Mammography- A Long Run for a Short Slide”, Sept. 23, 2010, wrote “It is estimated that for one woman to avoid dying from Breast Cancer, up to 1,000 women will have at least 1 false positive test, half of whom will undergo biopsy and Breast Cancer will be over-diagnosed in 5 to 15 women, who will be needlessly treated with surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or a combination”

No screening can be 100% accurate. The question becomes are we doing more harm to women, than the benefit, which could be done in less invasive manners, at less of a health risk and monetary cost?

According to Dr. Deborah Pate DC, DACBR, the average radiation a woman will accumulate at 2 views for each breast, 1x a year from 55 to 75 is 20 Rads of radiation. Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors received 35 Rads all at once.

We know health and disease is a gradient of the accumulation of our habits. This combined with other exposure to x-ray (plane travel, security screening, dental x-ray, etc.) and our other environmental pollutants could be significant to the elderly population.

In meta analysis of 6 studies, research presented at the Radiologic Society of North America it was found that women with a family history of Breast Cancer, or women with Breast Cancer gene mutation, when exposed to radiation before 20 yrs old had a 2.5 times higher (that’s 250%) risk for Breast Cancer than their counter parts who were not exposed.

In this research it was also found (8,500 high risk women) with 5 or more mammograms increased Breast Cancer risk 2 fold (200%).

There is also a high percent of false positive testing 21-49% of the time. What is even more alarming is non- malignancy’s are now being dumped and treated as malignancy’s.

It seems that we may want to pursue less invasive screening, treatment and more prevention protocols before more women are harmed unnecessarily. For a list of research sites and articles Google Breast Cancer risk, ionizing radiation and breast cancer screening and risk for some eye opening data.

In Health & Service,
