Allergies – Why They Occur And What You Can Do Today To Make Them Unnecessary, Naturally

Whether you have seasonal allergic symptoms, perennial (year round), nasal, respiratory symptoms, asthma or even skin conditions we need to understand our immune system is overreacting.  When our nervous system/mind perceives a threat (real like a vicious dog/fear or unreal like they don’t love me and I’m empty & worthless/fear) the immune system mounts a response with antibodies, inflammatory mediators (such as histamine, heparin& kinins).  The result is vasodialation in the nostrils and mucous production.  Other inflammatory responses will constrict the bronchi and make it difficult to breathe.  There are many other responses, which each time they occur, make it quicker, more frequent and intense the next time all at the expense of your bodies health & alkaline reserve.

Some possible causes are early antibiotic use, being fed solid foods too early, mothers health during pregnancy, environmental factors (smoking, pollutants, chemicals in air/water/food) and nursing or not nursing.

What can you start doing to improve allergies today?  Immediately start to reduce dairy, sugar, milk products (chocolate).  Many individuals are highly sensitized to dyes, preservatives and gluten in wheat products.  Secondly, start to cleanse your body.  A liver cleanse 1-2 times a year along with detox footbaths serves to clean up our internal environment and free our body’s natural filters to regenerate.

Omega 3 fatty acids and green produce have naturally occurring anti-inflammatory properties.  I’ve used Alka Green, Trace Minerals and Green20 for years to calm down inflammation.  Digestive aids will also improve assimilation and breakdown of food which can, when properly digested, begin the inflammatory process.

Lastly and most importantly take a look at all the habits, belief systems and perceptions in your life where you get defensive, take things personally and make assumptions, rationalizations, excuses and justifications.  These are all by-products of the ego-false self, narcissistic tendencies that truly make it “all about me”.

What You Need To Know About Food Allergies

1.  Between 1997-2002 there was a doubling of peanut allergies among children.

2.  One out of seventeen children under 3 yrs old had a food allergy.

3.  According to the CDC there was a 265% increase in hospitalization related to food allergies.

4.  Kraft and Monsanto have actually funded food allergy non-profit studies, perhaps a conflict of interest? (From the book ” Unhealthy Truth” by Robyn O’Brien)

5.  A food sensitivity is when your body perceives or reacts to a protein/food as a threat.  The immune response is inflammation in the gut, blood, hormones and even the brain.

6.  According to the Wall Street Journal milk is the top allergen.

7.  Bovine growth hormone, which is injected into the cow to increase size, to increase profits, began in 1994.  Around the time of spikes in allergies to milk.

8.  Canada, European Nations, Japan, Australia and New Zealand do not allow RB6H into their milk cheese.

9.  1996 Medical Journal reported that RB6H milk has up to 10 times the amount of Insulin Like Growth Factor (IGF-1)

10.  The 1998 British Journal of Medicine cancel reports that even small amounts of IGF-1 can lead to breast cancer in women, 7 times more likely.

11.  According to the American Cancer Society, the U.S. has the highest rate of cancer in the world. And when you move here from other societies your likelihood of developing cancer increase by fourfold!

12.  Soy, corn, artificial colors, preservatives and dyes have been implicated in autism, asthma and ADHD (to name a few) beyond allergies.

13.  Kraft and Coca-Cola made different products for over seas markets than products in the U.S. (lunch meats).

14.  The South Hampton study in the UK, a double blind study, illustrated how coloring and dyes contribute to hyperactivity in children.

You decide whats healthy for your kids based upon your knowledge:  Less junk, more natural from the ground = healthier kids = happier home.  It might be uncomfortable at first, but you wont die from uncomfortable.  In the end virtue will set us free.  Even from unscrupulous companies who seek profits over integrity.

What’s The Deal On Soy???

It seems every so many months there is another study that suggests soy may be beneficial to women.  While other studies counter the findings.  I’ve always maintained that the soy you and I consume is a refined product and not as beneficial (even harmful) when compared to the soy in China/Japan.  Tofu and Miso are fermented and not processed (which depletes many important nutrients).  And the people in these areas have been on those products for their whole life and that of their ancestry.

New studies suggest that soy reduced recurrence and mortality from breast cancer.  The key finding here is whole soy foods, not processed forms of soy or supplements containing soy isoflavonoids.  The study found whole food forms of soy besides its beneficial effects on breast tissue, can prevent tumor growth and reduce inflammation.

We’ve known the beneficial effects of fermented foods on the body, especially on the liver, which may also be a contributing factor.  Soy is also estrogenic, which means it acts like estrogen in the body.

So if you are going to eat soy or take any soy products make sure they are from a fermented soy product to get the most benefits.

Some Quick Facts and Studies on the Benefits of Exercise

Millani & Colleagues from Ochsner Clinic followed 522 cardiac patients who exercised for 12 weeks of aerobic cardiovascular exercise for 50 minutes 3 times a week.  The results are as follows:

-Physically fitter (cardiovascular fitness)

-60% less likely to die in 6 years

-lowered stress levels

Green & Colleagues from The National Institute On Aging studied exercise and brain function by studying mice.  They found:

-exercise increased the number of brain cells

-enabled the mice to perform better at spacial learning

-were able to tell the difference between different stimuli at different locations, more efficiently (discrimination)

- increase of brain cell growth in the hippocampus which is in the limbic/emotional center of the brain

Canadian researchers investigated exercise and sex hormones (estradiol, estrone, androstindione and testosterone) all which may have an impact on breast cancer.  320 post menopausal women 50 to 74 aerobically exercised 225 minutes/week.  Results were as follows:

-estradiol and free estradiol were reduced

-sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) increased

These findings were consistent with covering the risk of breast cancer in post menopausal women.

Kemmler from Freidrich -Alexander University & Colleagues analyzed data on 246 older women who exercised.  They found:

-increased density of bone in the spine & hip

-66% reduction in the rate of falls

-fractures were 2x more prevalent in the control group, compared to the exercise group

Herring & Colleagues from the University of Georgia analyzed data of 40 randomized clinical studies involving 3000 patients with chronic medical conditions (heart disease, MS, cancer, pain & arthritis).  Those who exercised were found to have a reduction in anxiety, with exercise of 12 weeks and 30 minutes.

Sattelmair and Colleagues at Harvard School of Public Health studied 39,315 healthy American women older than 45 and the effects of exercise over a 12 year period.  They found:

-a markedly lowered risk of stroke

-there was an inverse relationship between walking, time & pace and related risk of stroke, schemic stroke and hemohoragic stroke

-as much as a 37% reduction, in stroke risk as walking time & intensity increased from 2mph to 3mph

Qi Sun and Colleagues from Harvard School of Public Health studied exercise and improved health among women who had survived to older ages.  In 13,535 women from the nurses health study reported that with physical activity:

-a reduction in cardiovascular disease

-a reduction in heart surgery

-a reduction in any physical, cognitive or mental impairment

So get out there! Find a activity 3-5 x a week, of at least 50 minutes and enjoy the multiple benefits of exercise!!!

Do My Feelings Really Matter?

One of the greatest determinants of health or disease in a person is their attitude about themselves, others and life.  When I say attitude I mean their subconscious beliefs.  These are programmed between 0-7 yrs of age and may not be very accurate, yet become the baseline for evaluating ourselves, others and life without questioning their accuracy or validity.

A person can exude a persona or mask of wealth, bravado, accomplishment, intellect or a number of false displays.  Yet it is what their body displays that can be the true parameter of whats really going on inside, running the show and grounding the ship on the rocks of self sabotage.

Science tells us how various feelings can trigger muscle tension, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, sweating, increased/decreased digestion and variations in all metabolic processes, i.e. blood sugar, hormones & immunity.  And that these physiologic changes are stored in memory along with the actual event that produced the feeling.  If the experience is not learned from and viewed from a higher perspective it can be triggered over and over again (through the senses) facilitating a quicker response by the body and leading to some system getting exhausted.  We then call that a symptom or a disease.  In B.E.S.T. we call this SEMO: Subconscious Emotional Memory Override.

More over, we know that our bodies generate and are surrounded by energy fields.  Research has shown how thoughts interact with energy fields, which validates the Law of Attraction.  Intense or prolonged positive or negative emotions create and attract similar vibrations; persons, places, circumstances or events.  So we can see, regardless of what life “brings us” it’s how we respond that sets the stage for our life experience.

Brush Your Teeth and Lower Heart Disease Risk

I know we’ve all heard it from our parents and dentists growing up, that dental hygiene is very important to out overall health.

A recent study of 11,000 adult men and women, averaged age 50, surveyed brushing habits and determined the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and levels of C-reactive protein/fibrinogen.  High levels of which indicate a state of inflammation in the body, precursors of many disease states.  In 8 years during the study there were a total of 555 cardiovascular incidents (170 fatal) in individuals who reported never/rarely brushing their teeth once a day.  It is found that there is a 30% increased incidence of MI (myocardial infarct-MI) only brushing once a day, and a 70% increase with less than once a day.

How I look at this is that we need to pay attention to our bodies in a proactive manner.  Meaning……. Why wait until a heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes or auto-immune syndrome before I start to be a healthy steward of my body.

I find clinically, that most Americans take better care of their pets and cars than their bodies.

A different perspective could be I’m worthy of a healthy, happy body and I act on my wisdom!

How You Can Calm Down Your Joints Naturally!!!

40 % of arthritis and osteoarthritis patients in the U.S. are now currently taking supplements and herbs to reduce inflammation.  Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease- an old unreconciled injury) is the most common form of inflammatory joint disease and the second most common cause of long term disability among middle and older adults in the U.S.

Here’s what you need to know to decrease joint inflammation

A)  A diet high in processed foods, sweets, sugars, cakes, candy, meats-grilled and fried at high temperatures, baked breads, chips, cookies and pastries.  All produce inflammation and micro-adhesion’s in joints.

B)  A diet to high in omega 6 fatty acids (soy, safflower oil, sunflower oil), trans hydrogenated fats, saturated fats (non lean meat, dairy, eggs) will increase inflammation.

What we need to increase

A)  Diets high in unprocessed foods, low temperature cooked foods, raw foods, rich in omega 3 fatty acids (chia, flax, walnuts, fish, organic meat).

B)  High antioxidant foods: green leafy vegetables, fruits, green tea, beans, herbs and spices.

Here’s a quick way to get those quality foods

-  8 ounces ice water/green tea

-  1/2 cup frozen berries (or any favorable fruit)

-  1/2 cup plain/vanilla yogurt ( I love brown cow yogurt)

-  scoop of whey/pea protein

-  table spoon of green powder (Alka-green)

or

- 1 packet of Green20- has the equivalent of a pound of organic vegetables!

-  1-3 tsp of fish oil

-  1-3 tsp msn or gelatin (sulfur for joints)

-  optional Stevia to taste

Have A Smoothie & Green Day !! :)

Is There A Relationship Between My Teeth, My Organs And The Electrical Systems Of My Body???

According to Thomas Rau, M.D. at The Paralysis Clinic in Lustmuhle, Switzerland, for every tooth there are neurologic connections and Oriental health connections to organs called meridians- energy pathways throughout the body.

I recently had 3 clients with facial pain originating at the level of a tooth.  All 3 were referred out to their local dentists.  One already had diagnostic workups and was visiting me in between the examination and subsequent treatment.  I referred to a tooth/organ/meridian chart for the dysfunctional emotion that relates to the organ which relates to the specific tooth.  I then proceeded with a B.E.S.T. procedure to locate the exact time of the interference in memory and cleared that memory/energy pattern.

For example the second incisor (top right) has a interference pattern of inflexibility, aloofness, disorganization and egotistical thinking/emotions,which can create energy imbalances at the right kidney, bladder and urogenital systems.  The feeling/emotion and their relative relationship to organs are from the book “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die” by Karl Truman.

All 3 individuals had complete diminution of pain within 24 hours.  One to the amazement of her dentist!  So what does this have to do with you and your health?

Know that you are intimately connected within.  Body, soul, spirit and mind.  Just because you feel an imbalance or symptom in one place, does not mean that is the causal area.  Most times it is not… Would you have a mechanic fix the dashboard of your car because it lit up?

Only when we address cause and remove the interference pattern does healing and self restoration occur, naturally.  Then symptoms remove themselves, as they are no longer needed to wake us up!

Happy or Joyful or Grateful Living… For No Reason

In her book, “Happy For No Reason”, Marci Shimoff shares stories of various individuals from what she calls “the happy 100″.

In our practice one of the primary points of focus in care is to create a paradigm shift.  If we can not communicate and lead people to the perspective that we are spiritual beings undergoing a physical condition, instead of we are physical beings with brief glimpses of spiritual experiences, there will be very little true healing and transformation.

A common misconception of our race, society, family lineage and personal perspective is that happiness as a source, is external to me.  Therefore I must always be out of myself, pursuing in desire or dreading in fear the essential happiness that all humans long for.  This outside/in thinking is the essence of suffering.

What Marci Shimoff is getting at is that within us is the eternal source of happiness.  So instead of looking out there for my quick fix of happiness or a need to fight/flight from threat, perhaps we can begin to look at our habits for what is going on in my life i.e. body, relationships or finances.  As I look deep for what I am grateful for, I begin to recontectualize my life and I see it from a different, deeper perspective.

I begin to be happy, joyful, content, enthusiastic for no reason at all, because I am living from beingness which is one of abundance, that seeks to gift its own inner joy, unconditionally to others!

So in the words of Thomas Jefferson, “Let us pursue (which means to practice in habits) happiness in all we think, say and do” and it shall be so, from the inside out!

Calcium Mal-Absorption As A Side Effect Of Acid Suppressants

A person may have a history of indigestion, acid reflux or ulcers and then is given a proton pump inhibitor (Prilosec, Protonix & Prevacid).  In May, the FDA after reviewing studies of PPI’s, issued a warning of the significant side effects of PPI’s: increased risk of hip, wrist and spine fractures with high doses or long term use of PPI’s (one year or longer).  Besides calcium malabsorption, B12 absorption has also been shown to decrease in chronic PPI use.

Michelle Katz M.D., of the San Francisco Department of Public Health, in an editorial in Archives of Internal Medicine states “A staggering 113.4 million prescriptions for PPI are filled each year, making this class of drugs at 13.9 billion in sales, the third highest seller in the United States.”

All this being said, woudn’t it be advisable to look at why so many people have various digestive symptoms?  It’s all in our 6 essential choices of what we eat, drink, think, rest exercise and breathe.

I’ve had many clients that on Alka Pan or Super Digest alone, feel total relief.  If they still have these common digestive symptoms, I help them look at what they are having trouble digesting emotionally in life, or where/who do they feel is being stuffed down their throat against their will.

As a person allows themselves to face, feel and forgive; healing becomes a natural by product.
