It matters not what we’re taking about, whether it’s an acute infection, a chronic unresolved injury, a metabolic syndrome (cardiovascular-II Diabetes), hormonal imbalances ( thyroid function, Cancer) or auto-immune (Hashimoto’s Disease, Arthritis): Its all about our habits. Our habits create our physiology (Epigenetics-Dr. Bruce Lipton).

Our physiology may be pleasant or unpleasant , yet it is just feedback about our choices and habits. The only true Health care is in willing acceptance of guidance in healthy choices. Here’s two recent examples of the effects of the medical/pain control paradigm.

In a recent study “Acetaminophen use and the risk of asthma”, Beaseley et, al, found an increase use raised the symptoms of asthma, rhino-conjunctivitis and eczema. This study involved 322,000 children from 50 countries. It seems that when we do not address cause, which is always habit, there can be unintended consequences. Notice I said consequences, which implies personal responsibility, as opposed to “side effects” which dwells in the victim/perpetrator paradigm of lower consciousness (see Dr. David Hawkins, Power v. Force).

Another study of Danish women (59,334) compared diet soda drinkers to non-diet soda drinkers during pregnancy. Haldorssion, et al studied the effects of diet soda v. non-diet soda. In my view they are both harmful, with diet soda with Aspartame more damaging (google: symptoms of Aspartame) than refined sugar with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). There was a 78% greater risk of preterm delivery with women who drank 4 or more diet sodas per day as opposed to 35% greater risk of preterm delivery in women who drank 2-3 sodas per day not sweetened with artificial sweeteners.

What’s wrong with this picture? We have the most resources, doctors, education and finances than any country on the planet. Yet we are one of the sickest places to live. Here’s some side effects (direct effects really, the side effect moniker is just a spin for4 the mentally feeble!) of a current Diabetic drug Victoza. In it’s advertisement they state “Victoza may improve blood sugar in adults with Type II Diabetes, along with diet and exercise.”

I would add the greatest component is their conscious thinking and whats stuck in the subconscious brain creating autonomic imbalances, without the person even knowing consciously they are creating a health time bomb! Here’s the kicker. “In animal studies, Victoza caused thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer!” Other problems include pancreatitis, stomach pain, kidney and liver dysfunction, an increased risk of low blood sugar, headache, nausea, diarrhea to name a few…

Here’s the truth: We develop symptoms due to our choices and habits.

For a person to truly heal they must:

Be willing to change

Have a successful coach or mentor

Follow through with advice

Be patient: There is no cure for healing, the body will heal on it’s own, it is created to self regulate.

My question is: Are you willing to make symptoms and disease and unnecessary?

In order for us to be healthy we must look at what science now tells us and what various spiritual philosophy have told us for millennium. We are one being and to be healthy we must honor and respect the mind, nourish the body and honor the spirit. To do otherwise is to invite symptoms and suffering. According to a study by Booth et al, in the Journal of Applied Physiology 3-30-2002, “There is now unequivocal evidence in the literature supporting the notion that all environmental factors combined, including physical inactivity, account for the majority of chronic health conditions.”

Scandinavian studies show that 58 -100 % of site specific cancers had an environmental origin. Harvard’s center for cancer preventions report in 1996 estimates that of all cancer deaths, 30% are due to tobacco use, 30% to adult diet and obesity, 5% due to occupational factors and 2% due to pollution. A total of 91% of type II diabetes and 82% of coronary artery disease in 84,000 nurses can be attributed to habits (see six essential choices) and so-called high risk behavior- i.e. body mass > 25, low intake of vegetable/fibers, high polyunsaturated fat/trans-fat, high gycemic load, smoking and inactive lifestyle.

So what the studies and statistics and leading Epigeneticist’s (Bruce Lipton PHD) are telling us is the majority of deaths from chronic health conditions in the U.S. are of environmental origin – our choices and habits.

My question to you is are you just interested in your health, happiness and success? You’ll fold/quit as soon as obstacles create discomfort. Or are you passionately committed to do whatever it takes, whenever, however, with no attachment to outcome, to be abundantly healthy, happy and successful.

If you think you can, you’re right. If you think you can’t, you’re also right ! The choice is yours !

When our six essential choices (eat, drink, breathe, exercise, rest and think) become imbalanced due to habit, our minds shift into perceptions of defense. We begin to perceive threat where there is no actual threat to our existence. The true threat is to our ego-based beliefs that cause the drama and the trauma of our lives, which are all subconscious. To make matters worse we defend these beliefs as if the are absolute truth, when in reality these beliefs aren’t even ours…Science tells us that our beliefs, that run out behaviors, are input into our minds before the age of seven. Brain waves of children are like that of a hypnotized person, with no discernment to accuracy and all is accepted as regardless of truth. These are the beliefs that creep up in our lives generating negative emotions. Which, in turn stimulate the fight/flight response: elevate blood pressure, sugar & cholesterol, increased adrenal stress hormones (cortisol & epinephrine), increased heart rate, increased muscle tone (tight muscles), decreased digestion, increased sweating, dilated pupils and increased mental activity (mind wont shut off/shut up).

When this patter is reinforced over many years the body will break down due to overuse. The following is a description of some adrenal burnout symptoms:

Stage One

Digestive problems, inability to calm down, prostatitis , increased serum cholesterol, weight gain/weight loss, menstrual problems, sleep disturbances, diarrhea, tight muscles, decreased libido & pain syndromes.

Stage Two

Chronic fatigue syndrome, loss of libido, impotence, bloating and fluid retention, constipation, male & female hair loss, bone loss, increased nightly urination, low back pain/sciatica.

Stage Three

Fibromyalgia, chronic non-specific pain, heart arrhythmia, severe constipation, panic attacks/anxiety, bile reflux * digestive problems, depression/mental frustration, memory loss, inability to think clearly, sensitivity to smell, sight & sound, difficulty breathing, joint pain and all inflammations (anything ending in “itis”).

Stage Four

A trigger event will occur (physical trauma, mental/emotional stress) which will cause a blood sugar event,(when more than 1-2 adrenal hormones are imbalanced) a blood sugar disorder and or genetic predisposition i.e. cancer, heart attack, diabetes, arthritis, auto-immune, will then occur. So where do you fit in this 4 stage series of declining health? You can see that as time and habits continue the body will break down.

The next step is to ask; if this is how i got here, what can i do today to create a healthier life for tomorrow? The answer is to gradually start to change our habits in the six essentials (eat, drink, breathe, exercise, rest and think). By changing these habits the subconscious mind will calm down, allowing the body to heal. A good place to start is our thinking. When I get a negative thought, I could choose to follow it, and produce what I have created up to now in my life (suffering, rational stress, financial lack etc..) or I could choose to simply let it go, do the forgiveness exercises, repeat a positive affirmation, do belly breathing or do the Morter March….etc

The key is not to follow the ego-mind and its ego defenses that have created what we have ( & don’t want) today. Rather to see life & ourselves and respond to life & ourselves from a different perspective, point of view: one of abundance, joy.peace, love, confidence and creativity, irregardless of what goes on outside. In this way you are truly creating a life of health, happiness and success. The life you are meant to live now.

There are an estimated 4.2 million people in the US 85 years or older, an estimated 40,000 of them living to reach 100. Census projections predict 1 million Americans will celebrate their 100th birthday by 2050.

Evidence suggests good genes are only a small part of the longevity experience. Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of “The Biology of Beliefs,” has scientifically valid evidence it’s simply our habits and choices that create our physiology – how our bodies feel & work. Researchers now believe that chronic illness is not an inevitable byproduct of aging but a direct result of our lifestyle choices, choices that we are perfectly free to embrace or reject!

Here are some suggestions to move forward with Health, Happiness, and Success:

Embrace a positive attitude

According to research and my clinical experience an attitude of gratitude for all of life’s experiences is the key to longer and more vibrant living. Positive emotions trigger neurological and hormonal responses that have healing benefits to the whole body.

Challenge your mind – try something new

Research shows the more we educate and try new tasks and skills the longer we live! Take advantage of opportunities that may not have been available in the past. Travel, volunteer activities, a second career, musical instruction, writing, various classes – all serve to stimulate brain activity.

Reduce resistance and stay connected

Understand that anything I have a negative emotional reaction to is a deeper reflection of myself that I have not loved, learned from, and released.

What I resist tends to persist and/or reoccur over and over in my life.

I can choose to forgive. I can choose to view movies, entertainment, and life with humor.

Prayer/meditation/exercise are self-nurturing activities that help me to reconnect to the internal and external now; they are natural relaxants and grounding activities.

Maintain touch with family, friends, and mastermind groups that encourage us to take care of ourselves and challenge us to risk, stretch, and grow.

Begin to decrease stimulating products like smoking, drinking, junk food, white flour, white sugar, white rice products – these are a sure way to accelerate aging and produce ill health.

Embrace exercise

Find any way you enjoy to move. Movement will increase muscle tone, cardiovascular health, bowel & immune function, to name a few benefits.

5 to 6 days a week of aerobic (if you can still talk while doing it, its aerobic) exercise 30-40 minutes long.

Include 2 to 3 days of mild to moderate strength training, seek a trainer, Pilates classes, etc.

Make healthy nutrition choices and choose whole food supplements

Reduce organic grown protein to 40 grams a day (you’re getting protein from all your other food choices already)

Increase veggies and fruits to 60-70% of diet. Within 3 months you’ll be leaner and healthier.

Choose reverse osmosis water to remove toxic chemicals; sweeten with Stevia and add lemon juice to revitalize the water.

By reducing junk food we reduce devitalized, nutrition lacking substances.

Choose a supplement that directly comes from food, not mega-supplements that are highly stimulatory. Morter HealthSystems Alka-Line, Liv International and Standard Process both fulfill all natural & whole food requirements.

Choose quality health care

Find a quality holistic physician that can guide you in making a healthy balance plan.

Be regular for the purpose of wellness, not disease symptom care.

A B.E.S.T. practitioner can be found on Morter.com to help you look at your health care needs and rebalance the mind-body for more optimum wellness

To heal and have a vital, vibrant life I must understand that my habits affect my physiology. Another way of looking at this is that my habits are my physiology. Any symptoms, ill health or vitality, are a direct effect of what we call the six essential choices. The most effective way to avoid pain and illness of any kind is to make healthy choices based upon accurate natural information. My ongoing health depends upon it.

Here is a brief guideline for making healthy choices from “Eat to Live,” by M.T. Morter Jr., MA, DC.

What I eat – My diet needs to consist of approximately 70-80% veggies and fruits, 20% anything else. This keeps my body alkaline (natural state) instead of acidic, preventing injuries & disease.

What I drink – Avoid stimulants like coffee, tea, alcohol, soda. Drink R.O. water and fresh squeezed juices. Stevia, Agave, and lemon can be added to water for contrast & taste. These alkalize the body as overly acidic conditions are often preconditions for disease.

How I exercise – Get 30 to 40 minutes of exercise of your choice 3-5 times a week. Keep it fun and aerobic (take your pulse and use this formula developed by Dr. Phillip Maffetone: 180 minus age = heart rate target in aerobic zone, i.e. 180-40 = 140-130 maximum aerobic zone). This will keep fitness, cardiovascular development, fat burning, and capillary development ongoing, to state a few positive benefits.

How I rest – 7 ½ hours of sleep is necessary to detoxify & rebuild our bodies. Keep stimulants, TV/news, exercises, and heavy meals away from when you go to bed to ensure a great night’s sleep.

What I breathe – If I can smell the air I’m breathing it is contaminated. Get an environment of clean, smoke free air to nourish the body and get oxygen to the inside of the cell and make energy.

What I think about consciously & what repeats from the subconscious – How I respond to life and how I react to my internal dialogue can activate the entire autonomic nervous system creating a health time bomb. Tight muscles, misaligned vertebrae, altered digestion, hormone function, immune depression, all are a part of a mind stuck in a altered perception

The care provided at my office in the form of Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique, B.E.S.T., along with homework, provide a means to seeing life from a higher and healthy perspective through these six essential choices.

In Health & Service,
