The aging process described by Deshaun Hammer in the 1950′s are manifesting at earlier ages. Metabolic Syndrome – high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, cancer and heart disease have drastically increased in the last 20 years. Many observational studies support the theory that these ill effects are exerted by free radicals upon the cell – lipid membrane, DNA and other protein structures which form the underlying basis for degenerative disease. Free radical damage creates inflammation which further pushes the cascading effects of disease.

The logical conclusion is what creates free radical damage? Here’s a short list of stimuli that turn on pro-inflammatory genes.

1. High glycemic index foods that create insulin secretion: once activated in the gut, immune cells crave sugar, use up serotonin, creating a serotonin deficiency in the brain which results in sugar blues/ “crashes” and more craving of sugar.

2. Chronic and acute stressful fight or flight thinking activates these same immune supporting cells in the gut and cortisol an anti-inflammatory hormone begins to act like insulin, creating blood sugar imbalances. When cortisol secretion becomes chronic, receptor sites on cells become cortisol resistant: more uncontrolled inflammation.

3. Skipping meals creates cortisol release (see above)

4. Excess athletic training at high heart rates creates cortisol imbalance (see above) , inflammation and many other health issues.

5. Chronic activation (repetitive) of the innate immunity appears to be the underlying basis of a wide host of degenerative diseases: high blood pressure, type II diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, all inflammatory conditions (arthritis, colitis, sinusitis, thyroiditis…anything followed by “itis”), auto-immune (shogrens syndrome, lupus, SLE) and many more..

Research shows that in some instances pathogens (disease causing microbes) or industrial pollutants can be present. However in the majority of cases no specific exposure or pathogen can be found. We know this as B.E.S.T. practitioners too well. The key to understanding chronic immune activation is current, recent and distant unresolved emotional experiences. Some which can be remembered and others which can not be consciously recalled, yet nevertheless act as a constant autopilot for inappropriate immune physiology. Once the experience is balanced and the person learns not to resist or attempt to control life and embrace it as it is, the mind and the body become more appropriate, no longer responding in fight/flight and true healing becomes a natural by product of normal homeostasis.

One of the greatest determinants of health or disease in a person is their attitude about themselves, others and life. When I say attitude I mean their subconscious beliefs. These are programmed between 0-7 yrs of age and may not be very accurate, yet become the baseline for evaluating ourselves, others and life without questioning their accuracy or validity.

A person can exude a persona or mask of wealth, bravado, accomplishment, intellect or a number of false displays. Yet it is what their body displays that can be the true parameter of whats really going on inside, running the show and grounding the ship on the rocks of self sabotage.

Science tells us how various feelings can trigger muscle tension, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, sweating, increased/decreased digestion and variations in all metabolic processes, i.e. blood sugar, hormones & immunity. And that these physiologic changes are stored in memory along with the actual event that produced the feeling. If the experience is not learned from and viewed from a higher perspective it can be triggered over and over again (through the senses) facilitating a quicker response by the body and leading to some system getting exhausted. We then call that a symptom or a disease. In B.E.S.T. we call this SEMO: Subconscious Emotional Memory Override.

More over, we know that our bodies generate and are surrounded by energy fields. Research has shown how thoughts interact with energy fields, which validates the Law of Attraction. Intense or prolonged positive or negative emotions create and attract similar vibrations; persons, places, circumstances or events. So we can see, regardless of what life “brings us” it’s how we respond that sets the stage for our life experience.

According to Thomas Rau, M.D. at The Paralysis Clinic in Lustmuhle, Switzerland, for every tooth there are neurologic connections and Oriental health connections to organs called meridians- energy pathways throughout the body.

I recently had 3 clients with facial pain originating at the level of a tooth. All 3 were referred out to their local dentists. One already had diagnostic workups and was visiting me in between the examination and subsequent treatment. I referred to a tooth/organ/meridian chart for the dysfunctional emotion that relates to the organ which relates to the specific tooth. I then proceeded with a B.E.S.T. procedure to locate the exact time of the interference in memory and cleared that memory/energy pattern.

For example the second incisor (top right) has a interference pattern of inflexibility, aloofness, disorganization and egotistical thinking/emotions,which can create energy imbalances at the right kidney, bladder and urogenital systems. The feeling/emotion and their relative relationship to organs are from the book “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die” by Karl Truman.

All 3 individuals had complete diminution of pain within 24 hours. One to the amazement of her dentist! So what does this have to do with you and your health?

Know that you are intimately connected within. Body, soul, spirit and mind. Just because you feel an imbalance or symptom in one place, does not mean that is the causal area. Most times it is not… Would you have a mechanic fix the dashboard of your car because it lit up?

Only when we address cause and remove the interference pattern does healing and self restoration occur, naturally. Then symptoms remove themselves, as they are no longer needed to wake us up!

The U.S.breast cancer rate is one of the highest in the world. 191,000 women will be diagnosed each year with 40,800 fatalities per year. The American Cancer Society in 1975, found a close relationship between HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) and cancer. No heed was paid. So we continue on a insane path.

In 2002 the Women’s Health Initiative Clinical Trials were halted on HRT 3 years early due to the unacceptable increase in breast cancer, heart disease and stroke in women who were taking an estrogen/progesterone dose daily.

HRT is now known to cause 120 combined risks and side effects, a few being breast, ovarian and uterine cancer.

Phyto-estrogens (those found in plants) are found to bind / take the place of the more lethal Xeno-estrogens (chemical/pharmaceutical estrogens). These include: DDT, DDE, PCB’s, organo-chlorines and estrogen in foods. Today there are 11,000 recognized endocrine disruptor’s.

The Japanese population has a very low incident of breast cancer because fermented soy/mi-so/tofu binds to estrogen receptors, and contains enzymes that disassemble the conversion of female androgen’s to cancer causing agents. Xeno-estrogens increase the free floating estrogens in a women’s body, and when combined with various enzymes increase the incidence of breast cancer.

There are various natural substances that gently chelate toxic substances out of the body. We have found chlorophyll and fulvic minerals to be among the most successful. Also stopping the exposure through our choices and habits will cut down the probability of disease.

The next area to look at is our emotions. Several Acupuncture meridians flow over the breast tissue and can energetically effect endocrine receptive / target tissues such as breast, ovary, uterus etc. Louis Hay, in her book “You Can Heal Your Body” speaks about the mental (what we hold in mind) cause of breast problems, as a refusal (belief) to nourish one’s self, putting everyone first, over mothering, over protecting, overbearing and dominating attitudes. See our blogs on forgiveness and the learning of the lesson, especially borders and boundaries.

Osteoporosis: De-mineralization of the bone resulting in fractures

A) Excess protein consumption- reduce protein to 40 grams a day.

B) Increase green veggies for minerals, vitamins and co-factors.

C) Get active- send a jarring stimulus into the joints and bones by weight bearing activities: walking, running, Pilate’s, aerobics. (studies of professional cyclists is Europe reveal advanced levels of Osteoporosis).

D) Increase oats and rice which are high in silicon to increase bone density.

E) Alka Green, Trace Minerals, Alka Cal and digestive enzymes all increase alkalinity, adding to the alkaline reserve-your internal bank account of vitamins & minerals!

Depression: There are no biologic markers for depression. It’s simply a question/answer based upon subjective assessment.

Consider-

A) Increasing complex carbs (not enough can be decreasing serotonin levels), brown rice, beans, whole grains.

B) Reduce activities that create hormonal, blood sugar and neurologic imbalances i.e. smoking, therapeutic & recreational drugs, stimulants, junk food, excessive video games, social networking, t.v., etc…

C) Get out and get active

D) Ask this simple question and live by it (if you are willing to be well, or is there a secret payoff to being depressed??)

What am I in charge of? Be It, Bring It, Do It.

What am I not in charge of? Let It Go, Let It Go, Let It Go.

You will not die by releasing and accepting life on it’s terms. Acting on life’s feedback allows for self correction. This is a large part of being human. Yet our ego lives in it’s illusion of omnipotence, omniscience and all powerfulness.

Constipation:

A) Take a look at your consumption of certain foods: excess protein, junk food, chocolate and dairy can all shut down the bowel.

B) Increase water, roughage and fiber with fruits and vegetables.

C) Exercise- your choice

D) Make a list of all the “shoulds” you have about yourself, others and life that aren’t going as expected. Rigid, dogmatic thinking that is guilt related is the #1 negative emotion, according to Oriental Health care, for the large bowel.

Practice asking yourself: Who said so? Is this really the objective truth? Love it , embrace it, release it and move on in your heart, mind and body in the journey.

Headaches: Vascular headaches, Tension headaches, Hormonal/Blood Sugar headaches etc. are too much energy in your head. It’s really only personal when you make it so.

A) Cut down on caffeine, sugar, junk food.

B) Get out of your head and into your heart: Sit relaxed, lights out, breathing deeply from the abdomen. As you breath in deeply, notice any tension and/or any thought or emotion that arises: Let it go and focus on your breath. Being this way over time, roots you in the now and frees you from the internal chains that bind, for what is needed will be provided in the now.

Proton Pump Inhibitors like Prevacid, Nexium and Protonix are widely used in this country for a variety of body symptoms. As a MHS (Morter Health System) member I view symptoms as a wake up call. A call to change: If a person is in an allopathic – linear mindset, they will view a symptom as needing to be suppressed, that they are being victimized by their body, their food, the heliobacteria etc., all a byproduct of separation and duality.

The wholistic model is quantum; sees the big picture, is unified and seeks to learn the lesson of the moment and move on to the greater lesson. Here’s some startling facts, “you get to choose what you want for your life.”

- in 2008 14 billion $’s worth of PPI’s were purchased, second only to statin drugs.

- in a 2009 Journal of Gastroenterology study, prolonged usage of PPI’s actually aggravated the symptoms they were meant to treat. Which means that continued usage is counter productive.

- AM.J.M: 2009 study suggest up to 60% of PPI prescriptions for hospitalized clients are unnecessary.

- in a 12 week trial 22% of 120 healthy subjects taking PPI had Gerd/heartburn while 2% of a placebo group had digestive symptoms (remember primo no nocere).

- since PPI’s affect calcium absorption a 2006 study in JAMA found that long-term PPI usage had a 2.65 times (265%) more likelihood of developing hip fractures.

- 2004/2005 JAMA studies suggest PPI users have nearly 2x the incidence of pneumonia as un-medicated subjects.

The list goes on. Here’s a suggestion, look at how your emotions and diet affect your digestive system, consider

digestive enzymes and not become a PPI statistic!!

How we perceive and respond to life’s challenges and opportunities to grow are derived from basic beliefs. These beliefs we are told are imprinted into our brains between 0-7 years of age. If an external experience or stimulus is congruent with the internal belief, there is no tension, resistance , fight or flight response. However if there is a lack of congruency between beliefs and environmental stimuli, an alert message is perceived by the brain, something is not safe. The sympathetic system starts to engage and to make matters more complicated what we perceive as a threat may not be, in reality. Then we start to justify, blame, project. excuse, addict our perception of reality.

Stuffing our emotions is a form of denial. In reality I’m lying to myself about how I feel and perceive life. I’m not trusting myself. Body symptoms will soon follow. I could also become a pressure cooker of boiling emotions, that buried alive never die, but percolate and stew, leading to accidents and diseases. Everyday in my office I see this scenario over and over.

So now what?

1. Be honest with yourself. Acknowledge how you feel emotionally, mentally, physically…

2. Breathe deeply into the abdomen; not naming the thought, feeling or situation.., embracing it/me as I am and the situation as it is now.

3. Breathing deeply will allow your being to be present in the now. By being present there is a shift in awareness and brain physiology. Our brains begin to function from present need as opposed to old stuck perceptions.

4. Let it go: if the thought, emotion or sensation returns, repeat 1-3. It will repeat until there is less stored energy. You will not die from a thought. If you breath-embrace and release you will learn to handle the catastrophic through the mundane. Your brain will do the rest as you change your habits.

The science of Epigenetics tells us that the brain of the cell is the cell wall and that the nucleus (center) of the cell containing the DNA is the reproductive center of the cell. Environment plays the key part in determining, through interaction with the cell wall, what genes will be activated and what will occur within the body. What is most exciting, is, to a large part, I determine, my environment, through my choices.

The National Institute of Health will be investing $190 million over the next 5 years into the understanding of Epigenetics and your health. They’ll most likely study diet and exercise which are 2 of our 6 essential choices. However, what has the most dominant effect upon Epigenetics is our thoughts ( read our previous blogs).

There are 1.1 million women diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide with 200,00 being Americans. What is interesting is there are over 300 studies that demonstrate eating vegetables can protect from cancer development. Especially vegetables of the genus Brassica: namely broccoli, cabbage, watercress, kale, Brussels sprout, cauliflower, kohlrabi, Peruvian Macca and mustards. For example, when eating 5 servings a week of these vegetables, the cancer odds ratio drops to .58 which is a 50% reduction in risk.

Perhaps we could also look at hidden resentments, bitterness, unforgiveness, over-responsibility (narcissism) over/under-nurturing others or ourselves. These are the predominant negative emotions of the Stomach Meridian that passes over the breast tissue. Dr. Dirk Hammer speaks from experience, with over 15,000 cases of studied cancer. Resolution through forgiveness and embracing the lesson will most assuredly hasten the healing and reconnection to source.

She lay face down on my treatment table in a plus 10 pain syndrome. A congenital malformation of the sternum, shallow breath, tears and not wanting her medical doctors’ suggested surgery was her picture. I was a last resort. I asked her if she was in pain for a long time. She said her “whole life”. Interested, I inquired further, “This bad your whole life?”. She replied, “No, not this bad, only the last 8 months”. And before I could ask any more Socratic questions (to help her move forward into truth) she blurted out “It’s not my emotions!”

It seems I am getting predictable. The truth is our thoughts and emotions have a profound influence on our physiology- regardless of our denial, blame, justifications, excuses (well thought out lies) or rationalizations.

So I dug in deeper. I asked her to go back 8 months or more. She relented and allowed herself to search her memory, finding a trigger event. When she thought of it I demonstrated the intense “locking up” of her legs. She acknowledged her body response. She knew that a previous experience was somehow connected to what she was currently feeling – and so did I. We were now in the same space of truth.

She felt some relief after treatment yet remained in considerable pain. I asked her if she wanted to improve quicker. She said, “yes!” I gave her the Steps of Forgiveness handout (from Morter Health Systems), instructed her to journal on Joy and write down at least 5 positive things she learned about herself, others and life as a result of this pain experience. I could feel her resistance to the assignment yet stood in my truth and leveraged for her.

She returned the next day with 40% less pain. Her breathing improved as well as her attitude. I let her know there was more to do on this trigger and we “dug in” with BEST again. She is now a willing participant in her own healing journey. Mission Accomplished!

Truly, I don’t go to work in my clinic. I go to school. I enthusiastically serve, witnessing “miracles” of mind and body daily. Where can you “dig in” today? Who can you call to step into truth, as you stand in your truth?

In health and service,
