We live in a country and society with more Allopathic (Medical Doctors), physicians, pharmaceutical companies, prescription drugs, OTC drugs and hospitals, yet it seems we are no better overall as a nation than we were 10-15-20 years ago.

Does throwing more drugs, money or surgery at our health challenges make sense when it hasn’t worked in the past? We are 32 in the world in mortality rate, when compared to 1st world countries.

Perhaps a change in thinking/context may help us. Instead of looking at the body as bad/imperfect, something separate from ourselves, and cutting it/drugging it and then perceiving we are being victimized by it… Maybe I’m the true perpetrator/oppressor and my body is just the result of my habits!

Here’s a new study from “The Spine”, Jan 2012. Analysis from 1998 to 2008 reveals an alarming rate of increase in the following surgeries, indicating a need for re-contextualization of health (NOT) disease care:

Spinal Fusion: up 137%

Laminectories: up 11.3%

Hip Replacement: up 49.1%

Knee Arthroplasty: up 168.8%

Percutaneous Cornoary Angioplasty: up 38.8%

So we need to take a good look at our 6 Essential Choices and decide where the imbalance is coming from!

1. Asprin, Aluminum based antacids – folate, thiamin, magnesium, phosphates, potassium

This is just a short list. What we need to understand is that ANY drug does 3 basic things:

A) speed up a body function

B) slow down a body function

C) shut down/stop a body function

The logical question is what am I currently choosing in my essential habits, and what have I been chronically choosing which is giving me negative feedback (symptoms). Address the habit and choice and the bodies response to the choice will diminish when it is no longer a necessity. If not, drugs and the vitamin/nutrient depletion will continue the downward spiral of symptoms, dis-ease, disease and death. While all the while never truly learning the lesson of self-empowerment and stewardship of choice.

In her book, “Happy For No Reason”, Marci Shimoff shares stories of various individuals from what she calls “the happy 100″.

In our practice one of the primary points of focus in care is to create a paradigm shift. If we can not communicate and lead people to the perspective that we are spiritual beings undergoing a physical condition, instead of we are physical beings with brief glimpses of spiritual experiences, there will be very little true healing and transformation.

A common misconception of our race, society, family lineage and personal perspective is that happiness as a source, is external to me. Therefore I must always be out of myself, pursuing in desire or dreading in fear the essential happiness that all humans long for. This outside/in thinking is the essence of suffering.

What Marci Shimoff is getting at is that within us is the eternal source of happiness. So instead of looking out there for my quick fix of happiness or a need to fight/flight from threat, perhaps we can begin to look at our habits for what is going on in my life i.e. body, relationships or finances. As I look deep for what I am grateful for, I begin to recontectualize my life and I see it from a different, deeper perspective.

I begin to be happy, joyful, content, enthusiastic for no reason at all, because I am living from beingness which is one of abundance, that seeks to gift its own inner joy, unconditionally to others!

So in the words of Thomas Jefferson, “Let us pursue (which means to practice in habits) happiness in all we think, say and do” and it shall be so, from the inside out!

5. Reduction of inflammation: = Quicker recovery & health

6. Improved immunity to “contagious diseases.”

It matters not what we’re taking about, whether it’s an acute infection, a chronic unresolved injury, a metabolic syndrome (cardiovascular-II Diabetes), hormonal imbalances ( thyroid function, Cancer) or auto-immune (Hashimoto’s Disease, Arthritis): Its all about our habits. Our habits create our physiology (Epigenetics-Dr. Bruce Lipton).

Our physiology may be pleasant or unpleasant , yet it is just feedback about our choices and habits. The only true Health care is in willing acceptance of guidance in healthy choices. Here’s two recent examples of the effects of the medical/pain control paradigm.

In a recent study “Acetaminophen use and the risk of asthma”, Beaseley et, al, found an increase use raised the symptoms of asthma, rhino-conjunctivitis and eczema. This study involved 322,000 children from 50 countries. It seems that when we do not address cause, which is always habit, there can be unintended consequences. Notice I said consequences, which implies personal responsibility, as opposed to “side effects” which dwells in the victim/perpetrator paradigm of lower consciousness (see Dr. David Hawkins, Power v. Force).

Another study of Danish women (59,334) compared diet soda drinkers to non-diet soda drinkers during pregnancy. Haldorssion, et al studied the effects of diet soda v. non-diet soda. In my view they are both harmful, with diet soda with Aspartame more damaging (google: symptoms of Aspartame) than refined sugar with HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). There was a 78% greater risk of preterm delivery with women who drank 4 or more diet sodas per day as opposed to 35% greater risk of preterm delivery in women who drank 2-3 sodas per day not sweetened with artificial sweeteners.

What’s wrong with this picture? We have the most resources, doctors, education and finances than any country on the planet. Yet we are one of the sickest places to live. Here’s some side effects (direct effects really, the side effect moniker is just a spin for4 the mentally feeble!) of a current Diabetic drug Victoza. In it’s advertisement they state “Victoza may improve blood sugar in adults with Type II Diabetes, along with diet and exercise.”

I would add the greatest component is their conscious thinking and whats stuck in the subconscious brain creating autonomic imbalances, without the person even knowing consciously they are creating a health time bomb! Here’s the kicker. “In animal studies, Victoza caused thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer!” Other problems include pancreatitis, stomach pain, kidney and liver dysfunction, an increased risk of low blood sugar, headache, nausea, diarrhea to name a few…

Here’s the truth: We develop symptoms due to our choices and habits.

For a person to truly heal they must:

Be willing to change

Have a successful coach or mentor

Follow through with advice

Be patient: There is no cure for healing, the body will heal on it’s own, it is created to self regulate.

My question is: Are you willing to make symptoms and disease and unnecessary?

In Health & Service,

Here’s some sobering statistics on fellow guys according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.

1. 12% ages 18 and older are considered in fair or poor health

2. 32% ages 20 and older are obese

3. 31% ages 20 and older have high blood pressure

4. 60% ages 18 and older do not consistently participate in leisure time-physical activity

To change these statistics we all need to look at our 6 Essential Choices, what I EAT, DRINK, THINK and how I BREATH, EXERCISE and SLEEP

and perhaps choose more self-honoring habits to create the Health, Happiness and Success that I truly desire!

What I have come to realize after working on well over 100,000 client visits in over 25 years of doing B.E.S.T. is – for you to truly heal, that is mind-body-soul-memory, I have to re-contextualize how I see myself and life. Another way of saying this is I need a paradigm shift to truly move forward out of the physical, mental, emotional, financial, spiritual rut I may realize I’m in right now.

If you can look at your life and see no negative repeating patterns this article is not for you. Or you could choose to read on and move out of denial.

A paradigm is a way of looking at yourself; how I perceive myself, others and life. It’s the rose colored glasses I look subjectively at life through and how I interpret and respond to life.

A perspective or re-contextualization I could choose to entertain would be: “I am a spiritual being, undergoing a temporary physical experience.”

When I begin to see life this way, I no longer view myself as just a body. I may have a body, brain, spouse, child, car, home, possessions, talents, etc., however I am not that, the matter, the physical, the temporary, the transient or passing. This is not to trivialize the physical, rather to see it from a higher perspective.

We know that the physical body is created to survive: what comes at it and what we do to it. It will, by intelligent design, create temporary solutions to habits that in the long run create dis-ease/lack of ease and eventually disease.

However the soul, the spiritual being is here to grow, evolve and to serve. So to only address the body, the matter, at the exclusion of the spiritual is at best a dog chasing it’s tail, at worst a prescription for soul suffering.

Here at Desert Dove Health & Wellness Center, we recognize we are all spiritual beings undergoing a physical experience and we address correction of cause at the highest level to the most physical in its easiest priority sequence according to intelligent design.

How we perceive and respond to life’s challenges and opportunities to grow are derived from basic beliefs. These beliefs we are told are imprinted into our brains between 0-7 years of age. If an external experience or stimulus is congruent with the internal belief, there is no tension, resistance , fight or flight response. However if there is a lack of congruency between beliefs and environmental stimuli, an alert message is perceived by the brain, something is not safe. The sympathetic system starts to engage and to make matters more complicated what we perceive as a threat may not be, in reality. Then we start to justify, blame, project. excuse, addict our perception of reality.

Stuffing our emotions is a form of denial. In reality I’m lying to myself about how I feel and perceive life. I’m not trusting myself. Body symptoms will soon follow. I could also become a pressure cooker of boiling emotions, that buried alive never die, but percolate and stew, leading to accidents and diseases. Everyday in my office I see this scenario over and over.

So now what?

1. Be honest with yourself. Acknowledge how you feel emotionally, mentally, physically…

2. Breathe deeply into the abdomen; not naming the thought, feeling or situation.., embracing it/me as I am and the situation as it is now.

3. Breathing deeply will allow your being to be present in the now. By being present there is a shift in awareness and brain physiology. Our brains begin to function from present need as opposed to old stuck perceptions.

4. Let it go: if the thought, emotion or sensation returns, repeat 1-3. It will repeat until there is less stored energy. You will not die from a thought. If you breath-embrace and release you will learn to handle the catastrophic through the mundane. Your brain will do the rest as you change your habits.

If you have any symptomology from indigestion to fatigue, back pain to cancer, you may want to consider what you are creating through your habits. You see, if you continue to do what you’ve done up to this point, or in other words – eat, drink, breathe, rest, exercise & think as the average American does, you will create what the average American does in their body.

We would like to believe we are a victim of some external agent, yet in the long run it’s our habits that create the internal environment that we call a pathology or disease. So who is the real perpetrator?

Dr. James Chestnut in his book, “The Innate State of Mind & Emotional Hygiene,” states that “the only way to break a stress response that initiates an anxious thought cycle is to create neuroplasticity“ In other words: when you get anxious or stressed, take a deep breath, lower your shoulders, focus on a positive picture in your mind for at least 20 seconds, do an MPower March, belly breathing, tapping. Do something to re-wire your brain for positive calming thoughts instead of negative stressful ones.

This combined with appropriate eating and drinking changes as well as exercise will create a health enhancing physical environment of freedom and energy.
