The aging process described by Deshaun Hammer in the 1950′s are manifesting at earlier ages. Metabolic Syndrome – high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, cancer and heart disease have drastically increased in the last 20 years. Many observational studies support the theory that these ill effects are exerted by free radicals upon the cell – lipid membrane, DNA and other protein structures which form the underlying basis for degenerative disease. Free radical damage creates inflammation which further pushes the cascading effects of disease.

The logical conclusion is what creates free radical damage? Here’s a short list of stimuli that turn on pro-inflammatory genes.

1. High glycemic index foods that create insulin secretion: once activated in the gut, immune cells crave sugar, use up serotonin, creating a serotonin deficiency in the brain which results in sugar blues/ “crashes” and more craving of sugar.

2. Chronic and acute stressful fight or flight thinking activates these same immune supporting cells in the gut and cortisol an anti-inflammatory hormone begins to act like insulin, creating blood sugar imbalances. When cortisol secretion becomes chronic, receptor sites on cells become cortisol resistant: more uncontrolled inflammation.

3. Skipping meals creates cortisol release (see above)

4. Excess athletic training at high heart rates creates cortisol imbalance (see above) , inflammation and many other health issues.

5. Chronic activation (repetitive) of the innate immunity appears to be the underlying basis of a wide host of degenerative diseases: high blood pressure, type II diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, all inflammatory conditions (arthritis, colitis, sinusitis, thyroiditis…anything followed by “itis”), auto-immune (shogrens syndrome, lupus, SLE) and many more..

Research shows that in some instances pathogens (disease causing microbes) or industrial pollutants can be present. However in the majority of cases no specific exposure or pathogen can be found. We know this as B.E.S.T. practitioners too well. The key to understanding chronic immune activation is current, recent and distant unresolved emotional experiences. Some which can be remembered and others which can not be consciously recalled, yet nevertheless act as a constant autopilot for inappropriate immune physiology. Once the experience is balanced and the person learns not to resist or attempt to control life and embrace it as it is, the mind and the body become more appropriate, no longer responding in fight/flight and true healing becomes a natural by product of normal homeostasis.

We are the most obese nation on the planet. How can this be? We have more doctors, nutritionist, hospitals, gyms, health-clubs, and finances than all other nations put together!

This symptom, which is epidemic and is currently trying to be legislated away, which will never work. Did this work with prohibition? Did it work in the war on drugs? The war against cancer? Heart Disease?

This symptom is a result of our unwillingness to live in a healthy manner, both in our individual choices and as a consumer nation. This includes antibiotics, hormones and environmental pollutants in our food , water and air!

The average cost to the insurance companies, disease care system (Allopathic Medicine), employers, etc is $5,000 per year for males and $2,500 per year for females for obesity. This from the report ” A Heavy Burden: the individual costs of being overweight and obese in the United States” which considered lost wages, disease care costs (allopathic), short term disability, productivity loss, absences etc…

The principle added cost of obesity is your health and symptomatology. Many people then seek relief through a magic pill, procedure or “guru”. The only true cause of our suffering is in our HABITS and BELIEFS. So to get healthy we must be willing to change at the core level. Core level willingness is a self-honoring FIRE that will sustain you even when your body or memory resists. See our previous blogs for some helpful hints. If you are truly committed give us a call to start your journey in Health, Happiness & Success.

In a paper released by the United States Government in May 2010, The White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity published the article: “Solving the Problem of Childhood Obesity Within a Generation.”

The scientists have coined a term obesogens as foreign chemicals that they believe promote weight gain.

At our office we have long used the term Endocrine Disruptor for any natural or synthetic chemical that mimics, mutates or stimulates estrogen or estrogen receptors. We know endocrine disruptors are as numerous as the 11,000 chemicals listed on various websites; herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, birth control pills, therapeutic and recreational drugs, soy, DES, heavy metals, environmental toxins-including the hormones in your meat or in the ground water.

These chemicals have very detrimental effects on the human endocrine system, creating non-desirous effects from adrenal and thyroid dysfunction to weight gain in some and behavioral problems in others (addictions, ADD, OCD).

What we have found in our office is: As we change the foods we eat, beverages we drink, use natural supplements to detoxify and rebuild our systems, get better sleep, exercise correctly and more often and choose more self honoring thoughts, our physical body’s are very resilient in our ability to heal!

Our Health Is Our Choice!!

This is a fundamental question. What I have learned in 30 years of practice is that until a person has come to a place of committed willingness, very little will be accomplished toward healing and wellness.

There is a pervasive belief in out society that happiness is external to myself. I am therefore always in a state of lack and desire. So I must look for the cause of my happiness or the solution to my symptoms externally. This is the proverbial dog chasing its tail. Even if it catches its tail, it’ll end up biting itself and causing pain, instead of happiness.

According to Dr. David Ludwig from Boston’s Children Hospital, statistics validate 1 in 3 children today are obese (JAMA: Journal of the American Medical Association). He began to study genes and switched to the environmental causes of obesity and the effects obesity creates in adulthood (chronic pain, inflammatory conditions, heart disease, stroke, type II diabetes). What he concluded is that it is a lifestyle.

What this says to me is that it is our beliefs and habits that turn on certain genes, which create our body physiology and state of health or ill health. This brings us back to willingness.

Are you willing to:

1. eat different than you have been or were taught or raised with?

2. drink differently than you have been or were raised with?

3. exercise differently than you have been or were taught?

4. think differently than you have been or were raised with?

If you are call us today to begin your journey to optimum health happiness and success!

When we do symptom surveys in the office one of the most causes of health concerns is the over consumption of white flour, white rice and sugar. There are over 150 negative side effects that can be attributed to refined sugar. From lowered immunity to Diabetes to obesity and chronic inflammation. The #1 thing you can do to become healthier is decrease then eliminate processed sugar totally!! Not only does refined sugar give us insulin spikes, which results in hypo (low) glycemia (blood sugar), after years of insulin insult, receptor sites on the cell wall become resistant, almost calloused to insulin. So sugar can no longer get into the cell, leading to Hyperglycemia or Type II Diabetes.

Here’s a brief way to begin to gradually kick the habit.

1. Reduce your sugar intake consciously. Ask yourself before you eat something “is there sugar in this” and “how much”

2. Keep a journal of when you crave sugar or feel tired and address this issue with a B.E.S.T. practitioner (morter.com)

3. Make substitutes – for example, brown rice instead of white rice or Stevia instead of sugar.

4. Keep healthy snacks readily available: Veggies, fruits, peanut butter (unsweetened), almond butter, etc. Get creative for your specific tastes!

5. Dilute your coffee and fruit juice.

6. Make your own lemonade: Stevia and fresh squeezed lemons.

7. Avoid the center isles of the grocery store: All the processed foods are here. Stick to the perimeter where the whole foods tend to be.

8. Do not go to the store hungry or with hungry children.

9. Do not become over zealous about sugar reduction. Share the positive benefits and substitutes to get agreement by all and make it fun!

10. Create a balanced diet, supplements and mindset with your B.E.S.T. Practitioner.

11. Use oral spray Liv Skinny Mist: Try it and you will understand why.

12. Most Important! If you are truly willing, every time you get a sugar craving realize: it is a memory pattern in your mind/soul! To truly heal I must change the pattern to unlock the power to heal.

A. 1st breath deeply into the abdomen 2-3-4-5 times, each time picturing the most happy, joy filled, blissful experience of your life. Do this until the craving passes and you feel different.

B. While in that picture/feeling/mindset, tap on your sternum and make a positive affirmation.

i.e. “I am grateful & thankful for abundant health, happiness and success in my life”

i.e. ” I am a being of infinite love, joy and happiness”

i.e. ” I am divinely loved and safe. I am whole”

Get creative and come up with an affirmation that really feels right for you!!

What’s Excessive? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics our children should be limited to no more than 1-2 hours a day! Researchers have found that when children watch excessive t.v. they are at risk of depression, obesity and attention span disorders. According to the study, children who reported “more television use had significantly greater odds of developing depression for each additional hour of daily television use.”

These findings were NOT correlated to children who were exposed to video games, computer games or radio. Perhaps because of the involvement of motor skills in games. What I find interesting is how quickly we allow ourselves and children to escape into “fantasy” so quickly and so deeply, when life is present to be lived! Books, music, sports, activities, chores, hobbies, relationships, worship, study (to name a few) are all areas of a balanced individual that get neglected for t.v.

Research shows that exercise between 4-8 pm increases strength and endurance, a great time to exercise, skip t.v. and choose to develop a healthy lifestyle.

I recently commented on obesity, BMI, disease and change. The action steps are simple, yet we are the most obese nation on the planet! That leads me to conclude we are the most “in denial”, full of excuses (well thought out lies), nation, when it comes to the Truth about health care.

Health is not about a pill, procedure, drug, surgery or vice. Health is about making self honoring choices and a willingness to move from vice to virtue. Here are a few well documented steps to follow through on once you have decided in your heart to honor yourself, and no longer believe in the excuses you have been programmed to believe.

1. Find a picture in your life experience of joy or happiness and journal on this in great detail.

2. Every time you experience physical hunger, or the “urgent” knee jerk desire to eat; focus on your picture and emotion, until you feel different and repeat to yourself ” I am grateful & thankful for joy in my life and I act only on my joy”.

3. Find a naturally flavored, sugar and soy free protein powder ( whey , rice, pea, hemp – i.e. Alka Slim)

4. Add Omega 3-6-9; flax seed, chia seed and antioxidant rich fruits & veggies ( berries, Alka Green powder etc.)

5. For taste & good fat try adding coconut milk to shake.

6. Add Trace Minerals; you won’t taste it.

7. Substitute a shake 2 x a day for meals.

8. Drink Green tea. It is high in antioxidants and can increase metabolism. 2-3 quarts per day. Much hunger is thirst.

9. Walk 20-30-50 minutes per day, 5 days a week.

10. Take chest, hip, and thigh measurements or BMI and remeasure in 6 weeks. You’ll be very pleased with the results.
