To put it in a nutshell, we all have inherited genetic strengths and weaknesses. However all to often in the office I hear from clients “it’s in my genes”, my mother, father, sister, aunt had x,y,and z so the default through inadequate knowledge and faulty logic is that they are just powerless victims of their inherited genes.

False! As cellular biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton explains ” It is now recognized that the environment (our choices) and more specifically our perception (interpretation of reality=subjectivity) of the environment directly controls the activity of our genes! Environment controls the gene activity (and protein synthesis; the foundation of life) through a process know as epigenetic control.”

So to simplify; you and I are not a slave to our DNA, it’s our choices, more specifically how I perceive reality, that dictates how my body performs! If reality is perceived as a threat my body will respond accordingly, just as if reality is perceived as a joy/dance with life my body will also respond accordingly.

What I have come to realize after working on well over 100,000 client visits in over 25 years of doing B.E.S.T. is – for you to truly heal, that is mind-body-soul-memory, I have to re-contextualize how I see myself and life. Another way of saying this is I need a paradigm shift to truly move forward out of the physical, mental, emotional, financial, spiritual rut I may realize I’m in right now.

If you can look at your life and see no negative repeating patterns this article is not for you. Or you could choose to read on and move out of denial.

A paradigm is a way of looking at yourself; how I perceive myself, others and life. It’s the rose colored glasses I look subjectively at life through and how I interpret and respond to life.

A perspective or re-contextualization I could choose to entertain would be: “I am a spiritual being, undergoing a temporary physical experience.”

When I begin to see life this way, I no longer view myself as just a body. I may have a body, brain, spouse, child, car, home, possessions, talents, etc., however I am not that, the matter, the physical, the temporary, the transient or passing. This is not to trivialize the physical, rather to see it from a higher perspective.

We know that the physical body is created to survive: what comes at it and what we do to it. It will, by intelligent design, create temporary solutions to habits that in the long run create dis-ease/lack of ease and eventually disease.

However the soul, the spiritual being is here to grow, evolve and to serve. So to only address the body, the matter, at the exclusion of the spiritual is at best a dog chasing it’s tail, at worst a prescription for soul suffering.

Here at Desert Dove Health & Wellness Center, we recognize we are all spiritual beings undergoing a physical experience and we address correction of cause at the highest level to the most physical in its easiest priority sequence according to intelligent design.

How we perceive and respond to life’s challenges and opportunities to grow are derived from basic beliefs. These beliefs we are told are imprinted into our brains between 0-7 years of age. If an external experience or stimulus is congruent with the internal belief, there is no tension, resistance , fight or flight response. However if there is a lack of congruency between beliefs and environmental stimuli, an alert message is perceived by the brain, something is not safe. The sympathetic system starts to engage and to make matters more complicated what we perceive as a threat may not be, in reality. Then we start to justify, blame, project. excuse, addict our perception of reality.

Stuffing our emotions is a form of denial. In reality I’m lying to myself about how I feel and perceive life. I’m not trusting myself. Body symptoms will soon follow. I could also become a pressure cooker of boiling emotions, that buried alive never die, but percolate and stew, leading to accidents and diseases. Everyday in my office I see this scenario over and over.

So now what?

1. Be honest with yourself. Acknowledge how you feel emotionally, mentally, physically…

2. Breathe deeply into the abdomen; not naming the thought, feeling or situation.., embracing it/me as I am and the situation as it is now.

3. Breathing deeply will allow your being to be present in the now. By being present there is a shift in awareness and brain physiology. Our brains begin to function from present need as opposed to old stuck perceptions.

4. Let it go: if the thought, emotion or sensation returns, repeat 1-3. It will repeat until there is less stored energy. You will not die from a thought. If you breath-embrace and release you will learn to handle the catastrophic through the mundane. Your brain will do the rest as you change your habits.

Anxiety is an insidious, health destroying emotion. It is similar to the feeling that “something bad is going to happen to me,” or “I just don’t feel safe.” Another common emotion clients report is frustration. Inevitably when I question them they are frustrated with something beyond their control. A person, place, circumstance or even that they believe they had control of, yet this belief was erroneous, an illusion carried over from childhood.

Anxiety and frustration can develop on the job or at home through personality conflicts, perceptions or expectations, various fears: of making a mistake, being fired, embarrassed, shamed, etc. Over time frustration and anxiety take their toll on our minds and bodies leading to inflammation, pain, general discomfort, and eventually exhaustion and disease. These factors combined with poor diet, lack of exercise and unfulfilled sleep can lead to a health time bomb.

Most stress on the job or at home (which really translates to resisting the lessons life is giving me), is triggered by how I see things rather than actual events like threatening problems. How I perceive or see life is a byproduct of past events, beliefs, traumas and dramas. This is demonstrated by an event occurring and ten people giving ten different emotional perspectives on the same event, some even perceiving an entirely different occurrence from the rest!

Defense physiology is a stuck perspective that life is out to get me like before, basically stuck in fear and lack. Blame, control the need to be right – all are cover-ups for old unreconciled feelings. In B.E.S.T. we have the technology to identify these key patterns and stuck perspectives and update them through homework and forgiveness such that what was once perceived as a threat (only to my ego) is now seen as it is in reality, another experience in my life’s journey of health, happiness, and success.
