Whether you have seasonal allergic symptoms, perennial (year round), nasal, respiratory symptoms, asthma or even skin conditions we need to understand our immune system is overreacting. When our nervous system/mind perceives a threat (real like a vicious dog/fear or unreal like they don’t love me and I’m empty & worthless/fear) the immune system mounts a response with antibodies, inflammatory mediators (such as histamine, heparin& kinins). The result is vasodialation in the nostrils and mucous production. Other inflammatory responses will constrict the bronchi and make it difficult to breathe. There are many other responses, which each time they occur, make it quicker, more frequent and intense the next time all at the expense of your bodies health & alkaline reserve.

Some possible causes are early antibiotic use, being fed solid foods too early, mothers health during pregnancy, environmental factors (smoking, pollutants, chemicals in air/water/food) and nursing or not nursing.

What can you start doing to improve allergies today? Immediately start to reduce dairy, sugar, milk products (chocolate). Many individuals are highly sensitized to dyes, preservatives and gluten in wheat products. Secondly, start to cleanse your body. A liver cleanse 1-2 times a year along with detox footbaths serves to clean up our internal environment and free our body’s natural filters to regenerate.

Omega 3 fatty acids and green produce have naturally occurring anti-inflammatory properties. I’ve used Alka Green, Trace Minerals and Green20 for years to calm down inflammation. Digestive aids will also improve assimilation and breakdown of food which can, when properly digested, begin the inflammatory process.

Lastly and most importantly take a look at all the habits, belief systems and perceptions in your life where you get defensive, take things personally and make assumptions, rationalizations, excuses and justifications. These are all by-products of the ego-false self, narcissistic tendencies that truly make it “all about me”.

Dr. John Redman Coxe, 1773-1864, wrote that “The longer I live, the less confidence I have in drugs and the greater my confidence in the regulation and administration of diet and regimen.” Sounds like a wise man. Its all about our 6 Essentials.

From the American Journal of Gastro-enterology, Oct. 12, 2010, Shaw, et al : Children with diagnosed irritable bowel disease, constipation and diarrhea in childhood were significantly more likely to have received antibiotics (much worse if more than 1 regimen) compared with disease free controls. 58% of antibiotics usage with IBD as compared with 39% without antibiotic usage.

What’s even more disturbing is that there will be a high correlation in adulthood, once intestinal flora and the digestive system are interfered with. Ulcers, bleeding, cramping, anemia and weight loss all may follow; along with various autoimmune problems due to leaky gut syndrome and altered immune responses which can be as far reaching as moods, brain function and neurotransmitter imbalance.

So before you go and slap some antibiotics on your young precious child:

1. Start to look at habits- i.e. dairy, wheat, and other allergens (especially if nursing).

2. Children express what parents repress! Get cleared emotionally so you can be fully present to nurture and parent your loved ones.

3. Get your child balanced with B.E.S.T.: In 30 years of clinical practice I am amazed at what a clear energy field-mind-body can do.

4. Consider Alkalizing with: Alka Green, Green20, Trace Minerals, Alkadolphilus or pro-biotic.

Cherish your children by acting in wisdom not naivete and ignorance!

Osteoporosis: De-mineralization of the bone resulting in fractures

A) Excess protein consumption- reduce protein to 40 grams a day.

B) Increase green veggies for minerals, vitamins and co-factors.

C) Get active- send a jarring stimulus into the joints and bones by weight bearing activities: walking, running, Pilate’s, aerobics. (studies of professional cyclists is Europe reveal advanced levels of Osteoporosis).

D) Increase oats and rice which are high in silicon to increase bone density.

E) Alka Green, Trace Minerals, Alka Cal and digestive enzymes all increase alkalinity, adding to the alkaline reserve-your internal bank account of vitamins & minerals!

Depression: There are no biologic markers for depression. It’s simply a question/answer based upon subjective assessment.

Consider-

A) Increasing complex carbs (not enough can be decreasing serotonin levels), brown rice, beans, whole grains.

B) Reduce activities that create hormonal, blood sugar and neurologic imbalances i.e. smoking, therapeutic & recreational drugs, stimulants, junk food, excessive video games, social networking, t.v., etc…

C) Get out and get active

D) Ask this simple question and live by it (if you are willing to be well, or is there a secret payoff to being depressed??)

What am I in charge of? Be It, Bring It, Do It.

What am I not in charge of? Let It Go, Let It Go, Let It Go.

You will not die by releasing and accepting life on it’s terms. Acting on life’s feedback allows for self correction. This is a large part of being human. Yet our ego lives in it’s illusion of omnipotence, omniscience and all powerfulness.

Constipation:

A) Take a look at your consumption of certain foods: excess protein, junk food, chocolate and dairy can all shut down the bowel.

B) Increase water, roughage and fiber with fruits and vegetables.

C) Exercise- your choice

D) Make a list of all the “shoulds” you have about yourself, others and life that aren’t going as expected. Rigid, dogmatic thinking that is guilt related is the #1 negative emotion, according to Oriental Health care, for the large bowel.

Practice asking yourself: Who said so? Is this really the objective truth? Love it , embrace it, release it and move on in your heart, mind and body in the journey.

Headaches: Vascular headaches, Tension headaches, Hormonal/Blood Sugar headaches etc. are too much energy in your head. It’s really only personal when you make it so.

A) Cut down on caffeine, sugar, junk food.

B) Get out of your head and into your heart: Sit relaxed, lights out, breathing deeply from the abdomen. As you breath in deeply, notice any tension and/or any thought or emotion that arises: Let it go and focus on your breath. Being this way over time, roots you in the now and frees you from the internal chains that bind, for what is needed will be provided in the now.

Bone disease has reached near epidemic levels in America. Millions are effected by crippling and debilitating affects of osteoporosis. This is a de-mineralization of the bone, resulting in less density and fractures of the spine, wrist, hip and osteopenia (softening of the bones).

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, an estimated 10 million Americans over 50 have osteoporosis with another 34 million developing osteopenia-precursor to osteoporosis. This is all in spite of calcium supplementation, digestive enzymes, vitamin D (from sunlight) and other supplementation.

Here’s some stats you may not know:

- 1.5 million people suffer osteoporosis fractures per year

- 20 % of senior citizens die within one year of a hip fracture

- 20 % of those suffering from hip fracture are confined to a nursing home

- 1 out of every 2Americans over 50 are at risk for low bone mass by 2020

- Oste0porotic hip fractures account for 300,000 hospitalizations and 18 billion dollars of emergency care per year

That’s the bad news. The good news is there’s a lot you can do today to take charge of your bone health today! And they all involve your six essential choices!!

1. Decrease your protein consumption to 40-50 grams a day. Over 50 grams, study’s show a tissue loss of calcium to buffer the metabolic effects of excess protein consumption.

2. Weight bearing exercises (see my blog on cardiovascular exercise).

3. Eat something alive (from the ground) at every meal, i.e. your fruits and veggies contain the vitmains and minerals your bones need to be healthy.

4. Reverse Osmosis water and lemon juice ( to make it alkaline) and/or Stevia. Drop the high fructose corn sweetened juices and sodas… They’re high in mercury and put on excess weight.

5. Increase the good fats: olive oil, fish, nuts, avocado, etc… yes, even eggs!

6. Alka Green and Trace Minerals will build your bones and naturally alkalize your system.

7. Alka Cal is micro-crystaline hydroxyappetite (bone matrix); the most bone ready calcium source known. It preserves the calcium, microcrystaline matrix of living bone, protecting phosphorous, zinc, magnesium, trace minerals and protein in the process.

Multiple studies support that exercise in the Moderate Zone will modulate up the immune system. Changes in musculo-skeletal, respiratory, cholesterol and blood pressure all indicate moderate exercise has a beneficial effect on our bodies.

What recent studies now suggest is that to increase exercise will increase the risk of upper respiratory infection by suppression of the immune/adrenal axis. What we also need to take into consideration is our emotional/mental responses to work, family, finances, relatives, etc. If we go from the fire to the frying pan in different areas of our lives, it may not be a good time to hit the exercise hard this week.

Monitoring Urine & Saliva pH, resting heart rate and portable heart rate variability all can give me true body feedback on my intensity and endurance for today’s exercise.

Recovery is extremely important to training, so here’s a short list to increase recovery.

M-Power March

There are a variety of conditions, drugs and nutritional deficiencies/toxicity that create the symptom of hair loss. Regardless of the diagnosis we need to start to look at our habits or vices and see clearly how my choices create consequences, i.e. thyroid conditions, autoimmune functions, hair loss, high blood pressure, etc…

As a female ages, estrogen levels fall and there can be a shift in the balance of estrogen and testosterone. Estrogen creates cell growth, therefore proper estrogen levels will turn on retired (as we age) hair follicles. Testosterone can have a hair thinning effect when it gets out of balance. As I’ve said, as a woman ages, estrogen from the ovaries diminishes then ceases with menopause. However the adrenal gland produces androgen’s, which when healthy, will create a balance of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.

Lets look at what you can do proactively to create the full head of hair you desire. First, think green for silica, a mineral responsible for strong shiny hair. Beets, leafy greens, vegetables and whole grains have naturally balanced minerals, including silica. Copper, in hair makes it thicker, due to the stimulation of collagen. Oysters, legumes, chocolate, bran cereals, black-strap molasses (Alka-Boost) and nuts (almonds & cashews) are high in copper. Zinc has an antioxidant effect, which prevents free radical damage of the hair. Pumpkin seeds, chicken breast, eggs and wheat germ are high in Zinc. Think Alka-Green, Trace Minerals, Green20 & Adrenal support.

When we are creating a chemical/hormonal imbalance due to the fight or flight response because of our Ego’s resistance to the lessons life gives us daily, our Sympathetic Nervous System shunts blood to muscles, heart and brain to “beat the tiger” – It’s an illusion, there really is no threat in general to my life. The blood is shunted from the brain, depriving it of nutrition. Also the body steals pregnenalone from the adrenals to make cortisol/adrenaline and not balance the estrogen, testosterone, progesterone and DHEA. B.E.S.T. treatments re-time the nervous system and we coach you in health habits so you wont loose hair over issues that are not in your control.
