Dr. MT Morter Jr., past president of two Chiropractic Colleges and founder/developer of B.E.S.T. (Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique), for over 30 years has spoken on the importance of alkalizing our body and buffering the ill effects of toxic acids.

Research at the University of San Francisco Department of Medicine by Dr.’s Lynda Frassetto and Anthony Sebastian published in the Journal of Genealogy demonstrated that as we get older our bodies ACCUMULATE ACID WASTES. As these acid wastes accumulate our bodies begin to become over-whelmed in the buffering/detoxification process. Researchers found that “as blood acidity increased there was a corresponding decrease of the alkaline reserve.” The alkaline reserve is the excess vitamins & minerals stored up in our bodies.

What we have found in Morter Health System and B.E.S.T. is when our health choices stray habitually from the original intelligent design, we develop low level toxic acidosis, which must be buffered at the expense of alkaline reserve (vitamins, enzymes, minerals). Researchers coincidentally noted that as we accumulate acid and reduce alkaline reserve, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and other degenerative diseases occur.

What’s the answer to this dilemma? From a dietary point of view; to decrease acidifying foods (meat, dairy, junk food, refined grain & sugar, etc.) and increase vegetables and fruits! The National Cancer Institute states that increasing fruit/veggies to 8 to 10 servings a day (think Alka Green, Green20 & Trace Minerals) will cut the risk of some cancers by 50%.

The writing is on the wall, which will you choose? Acidifying foods and chronic degenerative disease, or alkalizing foods, exercise and health and vitality?

Call us today to check your pH and begin to take charge!

In the last few years there have been a number of studies that implicate poor sleep in many disease states: type II diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and impaired immune function. What is interesting is that sleep is one of our 6 Essential Choices, which can be highly affected when we create SEMO (Sub-Conscious Emotional Memory Override). In this state we over balance into the sympathetic portion of the neuro-hormonal axis, creating fight/flight physiology. This is counter productive to rest, recovery, detoxification and rebuilding.

At the University of Chicago, Van Cauter et al, in the course of 4 studies demonstrated that sleep depravation, night after night, creates a hormonal release stimulating appetites to rise. There was a 24% increase in appetite for junk food (bread, pasta, chips, cookies, pizza, cake, etc.). This is not surprising since fight/flight physiology is dependant upon quick energy release. They not only found the appetite for junk food increased but their bodies did not process glucose efficiently. As glucose builds up in the blood the body secretes more insulin to bring the sugar into the cells. As this cycle continues, the cell walls become RESISTANT to insulin. Thus the glucose can not get into the cell effectively and begins to create the symptoms associated with type II diabetes. Excess insulin is also a signal to the body to store fat.

Also of note, is that with sleep depravation the stress hormone cortisol begins to increase in the evening; along with a double spike of growth hormone. The researchers beleive these are other factors which affect insulin metabolism negatively. Van Cauter states that after prolongued sleep deprivation we loose the ability to tell when we need sleep. There are many more functions that can become altered.

The key is awareness. Become aware of your 6 Essential Choices and begin to change. Willingness to change, learning and growing are the hallmarks of a healthy human being.

Here’s some clues:

1. Most experts agree (both current and past) that being in bed by 10 pm is a good target.

2. Keep light and electronics out of or at a minumum (turn off if possible) in your bedroom.

3. If you of your spouse snores: consider breathe right nasal strips

4. Change your diet: keep evening meals to light protein and veggies. Skip the junk, dairy & wheat that create congestion.

5. Cut back on Alcohol

6. Get exercise during the day

7. Get a Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique (B.E.S.T.) treatment minimum once a month to create a well balced energy field and autonomic nervous system.

In Health & Service,

In a paper released by the United States Government in May 2010, The White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity published the article: “Solving the Problem of Childhood Obesity Within a Generation.”

The scientists have coined a term obesogens as foreign chemicals that they believe promote weight gain.

At our office we have long used the term Endocrine Disruptor for any natural or synthetic chemical that mimics, mutates or stimulates estrogen or estrogen receptors. We know endocrine disruptors are as numerous as the 11,000 chemicals listed on various websites; herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, birth control pills, therapeutic and recreational drugs, soy, DES, heavy metals, environmental toxins-including the hormones in your meat or in the ground water.

These chemicals have very detrimental effects on the human endocrine system, creating non-desirous effects from adrenal and thyroid dysfunction to weight gain in some and behavioral problems in others (addictions, ADD, OCD).

What we have found in our office is: As we change the foods we eat, beverages we drink, use natural supplements to detoxify and rebuild our systems, get better sleep, exercise correctly and more often and choose more self honoring thoughts, our physical body’s are very resilient in our ability to heal!

Our Health Is Our Choice!!

1. Under Eating & Skipping Meals

The adrenal hormone cortisol is stimulated which decreases thyroid function (sluggish metabolism) and increases abdominal weight gain.

2. Overeating Sugar in all forms

Increases insulin which leads to weight gain.

3. Estrogenic Foods (non-organic)

Estrogenic hormones in the meat decrease thyroid function and other glands which leads to sluggish metabolism and weight gain all over. Estrogen increases cell size and cell division.

4. Juice, Sugar, Coffee, Tea (caffeine free)

Increase insulin which increases weight gain, decreases liver function (weight to abdomen) and decreases thyroid function (weight all over).

5. Diet Pills, Herbal Teas, Caffeine

Over stimulates adrenals which increases weight to mid section.

6. Medication (Birth Control, HRT, All Medications)

Increases fluid, inhibits glands, increases insulin and slows weight loss. When these are present, body physiology to loose weight is almost impossible.

7. Veggies, Veggies, Veggies – The most commonly overlooked item for weight loss

Are they overcooked? Overcooking depletes enzymes and slows healing of liver (abdominal roll).

8. Fruits

Too much fruit can increase insulin and decrease thyroid hormones which increases overall weight gain.

9. Refined Carbohydrates and Starches

All junk food, bread pasta, donuts, rice cakes etc… Increase insulin and decrease thyroid hormones which decreases body fat all over.

10. Excessively Cooked Proteins That Are Non-Organic and Contain Estrogen and Growth Hormones

Liver function becomes sluggish which decreases thyroid function & hormones and leads to weight gain all over. Excess protein (more than 40-75 grams/day) or the equivalent of 3 decks of cards per day, increases insulin and stimulates weight gain.

11. Soy

Is a hidden source of estrogen, which decreases thyroid function/hormones and stimulates weight gain.

12. Water Retainers – Cause Bloating and Water Weight Gain.

MSG and all artificial sweeteners and chlorinated sugars cause the body to retain water.

13. Not Enough Good Fats

Good fats - walnuts, avocados, essential fatty acids, flax seed oil and fish oils.

14. Exercise Burns Fat As Long As You Are

a. Aerobic (not panting, able to hold a conversation, i.e. no weight lifting and strenuous exercise). Target heart rate zone is 180-your age-5 = top of zone minus 10 = bottom of zone. i.e. 180- 50 yrs old – 5 = 125 (top) – 10 = 115 (bottom). So 125 to 115 is the target heart rate zone for a 50 year old.

b. Maximum fat burning zone is greater than 20 min, 3 -6 times a week. More time aerobic increases fat burned for calories and stimulates greater fat loss.

Rate each category (1-14) as a 1, 2, or 3

1. Minimal transgression = minimal need to change.

2. Moderate transgression = moderate need to change.

3. Major/severe transgression = major/severe need to change.

Handle all 3′s first, then 2′s, then 1′s

I recently commented on obesity, BMI, disease and change. The action steps are simple, yet we are the most obese nation on the planet! That leads me to conclude we are the most “in denial”, full of excuses (well thought out lies), nation, when it comes to the Truth about health care.

Health is not about a pill, procedure, drug, surgery or vice. Health is about making self honoring choices and a willingness to move from vice to virtue. Here are a few well documented steps to follow through on once you have decided in your heart to honor yourself, and no longer believe in the excuses you have been programmed to believe.

1. Find a picture in your life experience of joy or happiness and journal on this in great detail.

2. Every time you experience physical hunger, or the “urgent” knee jerk desire to eat; focus on your picture and emotion, until you feel different and repeat to yourself ” I am grateful & thankful for joy in my life and I act only on my joy”.

3. Find a naturally flavored, sugar and soy free protein powder ( whey , rice, pea, hemp – i.e. Alka Slim)

4. Add Omega 3-6-9; flax seed, chia seed and antioxidant rich fruits & veggies ( berries, Alka Green powder etc.)

5. For taste & good fat try adding coconut milk to shake.

6. Add Trace Minerals; you won’t taste it.

7. Substitute a shake 2 x a day for meals.

8. Drink Green tea. It is high in antioxidants and can increase metabolism. 2-3 quarts per day. Much hunger is thirst.
