We need iron, which combines with protein and copper to form hemoglobin, which transports oxygen from red blood cells (in the lungs) to the cells of the body. The body uses oxygen to make energy. It is especially efficient if body tissue in/out of the cell are slightly alkaline.
Iron forms myoglobin which transports O2 to muscles and is also important for blood clotting, menstruation, tissue growth/repair and pregnancy.
We get iron from lean meat, green vegetables, eggs, fruit and black strap molasses to name a few.
Iron deficiency can be indicated by chronic fatigue, pallor and depressed immunity. I highly recommend you get your iron from the above food sources or from whole food supplements like Morter Health Systems Alka-green or Standard Process’ Catalyn. Calcium, Vitamin E and proper digestion are also important for iron absorption and utilization.
If you have an increased need for iron due to pregnancy or athletics remember to increase your food sources and whole food supplements to meet your increased requirements.
