Dentistry And Amalgan Filling: FINALLY!

September 22, 2010 By Roland Phillips (D.C.)

In June of 2009 the FDA finally decided that amalgam fillings which contain mercury, may be dangerous to our health. You think! The FDA cautioned these fillings may pose a risk “to developing fetuses, pregnant women and those people who are particularly sensitive to mercury.”  Let me add that everyone is always replacing old cells with new ones, so we’re always developing; and everybody is sensitive to the cumulative effects of mercury (see the blog on High Fructose Corn Syrup).  Dr. John Nuestadt, Director of Montana Integrative Medicine states ” When you chew on food, drink hot beverages, and brush your teeth, mercury vapor escapes from your fillings, you inhale it and swallow it.”

And I ask: Where does it go?  The endocrine glands, particularity the thyroid, are effected through endocrine disruption by heavy metals (mercury, lead, etc…). Combine this with iodine deficiency, adrenal exhaustion and over exposure to halogens (bromine, fluoride, chlorine- found in dental fluoride treatment, drinking water and bleached products) competing with iodine and displacing it from bio-availability and you have created a perfect storm.

There are 10 million diagnosed thyroid conditions in the US yearly and another 40 million more are sub-clinically undiagnosed, yet dysfunctional .

Have gold, porcelain or BPA resin free composites put in fillings.  To remove old fillings choose a dentist who uses a dental dam and suction to prevent mercury absorption.  There are a variety of natural supplements that carefully remove mercury from tissues.
