1. Anything that comes out of the ground, especially if its locally grown and organic. Fresh produce contains all the alkaline vitamins, minerals, enzymes and co factors in the right ration for our bodies to process and deliver to the cell. We live and die at the cellular level. Who do you trust more for your nutrition; Creative Intelligence or some pharmacists, who at best can only mimic, but not duplicate the intelligence of creation?
2. Beets: the roots and leaves are packed full off nutrients, antioxidants and phyto-chemicals and fiber, all of benefit to our bodies.
3. Rye: rye has the quality of creating the feeling of fullness and has a low insulin response for the blood and again is a good source of fiber. A recent study found that people who ate rye porridge for breakfast ate 16% less at lunch.
4. Organic Berries: Again, antioxidants, phyto-nutrients and they’re juicy and tasty! There is solid nutritional evidence these berries support memory, blood vessels, eyesight and are anti-inflammatory. If you’re trying to loose weight, don’t do juices, they are packed with calories. Stick to berries in cereal or smoothies. Organic is best.
5. Fermented foods: probiotics like Lactobacrillus and Bifidobacterium are added to certain foods like yogurt or sauerkraut. The healthy bacteria changes the food itself. Clinical trials show us that probiotics create a healthy gut which can show up all over the body as health promoting and beneficial in IBS, leaky gut, all types of GI disturbances and even functions in brain physiology and immunity.
6. Legumes: beans, lentils and peas. They’re a low fat/cholesterol source of protein, fiber, phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. A great tool for wight loss. We love Alka Slim- a pea based, low protein shake/meal substitute that you can purchase at our office or at www.morter.com.
7. Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, radishes, cabbage, Brussels sprouts. Cruciferous veggies have been highly studied, they are rich in isothiocyanates, sulfronane, etc., which are known to be anti-carcinogenic, aid in detoxification and free radical scavenging.
8. Fig: very high in fiber, potassium and manganese. A great source to assist in heart health and weight management.
9. Fatty fish: cold water fish (salmon/sardines) are high in omega 3 fatty acids-EPA/DHA. Especially helpful in all forms of inflammation, which is a key component in all major disease and illness processes. Many large and vigorous trials around the planet have demonstrated that the healthiest individuals have a diet high in omega 3 fatty acids.
10. Stop the junk: ask yourself, if my choices have got me here (x,y,z, symptom), maybe its time to choose again. This time more intelligently, as opposed to what the rest of the herd does and gets what they get.
