According to the New England Journal of Medicine, January 2010:
– the average man in the US consumes 10.4 grams of salt and the average woman 7.3 grams of salt – per day.
– the US diet is highly processed with 75% to 80% of its salt, due to processed food.
– reducing salt by 3 grams/day would project a reduction in cardiovascular disease, stroke, etc and 44,000 less deaths a year
– reducing salt benefits the whole population; especially women, African Americans and younger adults
– a 3 gram/day reduction would save 10 to 24 billion $ annually in health care costs
What is truly interesting in this study is its confirmation of the Alkaline/Acid Principles of Morter Health System.
When we imbalance our lives in one way or another (stress, excess sugar, over-doing-it) we tend to balance our lives externally with food on the other end of the spectrum.
Salt is constrictive. Sugar is expansive. Then we are on the yo-yo of expansive and constrictive foods which leads to Autonomic Nervous System Imbalance and disease.
