40 % of arthritis and osteoarthritis patients in the U.S. are now currently taking supplements and herbs to reduce inflammation. Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease- an old unreconciled injury) is the most common form of inflammatory joint disease and the second most common cause of long term disability among middle and older adults in the U.S.
Here’s what you need to know to decrease joint inflammation
A) A diet high in processed foods, sweets, sugars, cakes, candy, meats-grilled and fried at high temperatures, baked breads, chips, cookies and pastries. All produce inflammation and micro-adhesion’s in joints.
B) A diet to high in omega 6 fatty acids (soy, safflower oil, sunflower oil), trans hydrogenated fats, saturated fats (non lean meat, dairy, eggs) will increase inflammation.
What we need to increase
A) Diets high in unprocessed foods, low temperature cooked foods, raw foods, rich in omega 3 fatty acids (chia, flax, walnuts, fish, organic meat).
B) High antioxidant foods: green leafy vegetables, fruits, green tea, beans, herbs and spices.
Here’s a quick way to get those quality foods
– 8 ounces ice water/green tea
– 1/2 cup frozen berries (or any favorable fruit)
– 1/2 cup plain/vanilla yogurt ( I love brown cow yogurt)
– scoop of whey/pea protein
– table spoon of green powder (Alka-green)
or
– 1 packet of Green20- has the equivalent of a pound of organic vegetables!
– 1-3 tsp of fish oil
– 1-3 tsp msn or gelatin (sulfur for joints)
– optional Stevia to taste
Have A Smoothie & Green Day !! 🙂
